About Us
Digital art, media art and creative technology
Aion Laboratory is a division of Ise-Shima Art Company Co., Ltd. in Japan. We organize the Aion Digital Art Prize to support digital artistic expression and introduce creators’ work to an international audience.
Our field includes computer art, moving images, sound, interactive systems, multimedia and artistic uses of emerging technologies. The prize considers both the originality of an idea and the technical ability to give it form. Artists of all ages and nationalities can participate under the published competition rules.
Sumio Kobayashi · composer and media artist
Sumio Kobayashi is Aion Laboratory’s art director, a composer and a media artist. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Music, College of Art, Nihon University, where he teaches composition, harmony and related subjects.
His work Aquatic Score for a Performing Goldfish was a finalist for the Lumen Prize, Experiential Innovation Award. The work uses computer detection of a goldfish’s movement to trigger sounds from a musical score, connecting composition, moving images and digital interaction.
Alongside composing music, he creates media art that explores how sound, images and computational processes can shape an artistic experience.
