2027 Yukon Prize for Visual Arts: Electronic Media Artists Eligible, Apply by 16 November
Applications are open for the 2027 Yukon Prize for Visual Arts, a juried award recognising visual artists associated with Canada's Yukon territory. Original artwork in electronic media is explicitly listed among the eligible forms, alongside photography, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, textiles and other visual arts. The award is not a digital-art-only competition and is not open without restriction to artists around the world. The online deadline is Monday 16 November 2026 at 5:00pm Yukon time.
Who can enter from Yukon?
Applicants must generally have lived in Yukon for at least two years immediately before the 16 November 2026 deadline and be actively creating original art, whether full-time or part-time. An important exception permits Yukon First Nations artists who live elsewhere but maintain a significant relationship with Yukon. Eligible collectives can enter when all members and all submitted jointly credited works meet the competition's artist and artwork criteria; a participant cannot also enter separately as an individual in the same cycle.
Electronic and digital works are included
The organisers accept original works produced in the ten years before 16 November 2026, meaning works made since 16 November 2016. Eligible media explicitly include electronic media, as well as painting, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, photography and other techniques. Digital-media artists should assess how their original work can be documented for the jury and potentially exhibited physically at the Yukon Arts Centre in Whitehorse, rather than assuming a permanently web-hosted project alone meets every display requirement.
Award amounts and exhibition
One artist or collective will receive the CAD $20,000 main Yukon Prize. Five other finalists receive CAD $3,000 each. After a longlist in February 2027 and six finalists in March, finalists' works are scheduled for a group exhibition at the Yukon Arts Centre Gallery from 9 September to 19 November 2027. The jury is expected to announce the main prize recipient on 2 October 2027. Being selected for the longlist or submitting an application does not guarantee a cash prize.
Application materials and deadline
The organiser asks for identification and Yukon residency or eligible First Nations ties, the dates and descriptions of the artworks, a short artist biography, an artist statement, an artistic CV and images or documentation of selected works. The guidelines request digital images of four to eight works, generally one to three images per work. The online application closes at 5:00pm Yukon time on 16 November 2026; applicants using physical mail must instead meet the earlier 8 November postmark deadline.

Our competitions
Aion Laboratory separately runs the international Aion Digital Art Prize. Eligible digital works that have already been shown or won other awards can be submitted under that independent competition's rules. It has no affiliation with the Yukon Prize.
