AIR in Tainan 2027 - Tsung-Yeh Arts and Cultural Center

An international residency organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Tainan City Government under the 2027 theme Site-Specific Art, with projects linked to Tainan hydrology, terrain, ecology, humanities, and the historic Tsung-Yeh site.

Deadline: 31 August 2026 at 23:59 Taiwan time. Applications opened on 1 July 2026.

Eligibility

• No restriction on artistic discipline.

• Applicants must have basic communication ability in English or Chinese.

• Applicants must propose a site-specific residency project based on the official theme and incorporate the historic architecture of Tsung-Yeh into the planned presentation.

Application / Project Requirements

• Online application only through the AIR in Tainan system.

• Upload a CV, residency plan, and at least one signed recommendation letter.

• Applicants select one residency period of 45 to 90 days from the three official periods: 4 January-9 April, 7 April-6 July, or 31 May-30 August 2027.

• Selected artists must complete at least one presentation or exhibition and at least one workshop, and submit a final report.

Funding / Support / Benefits

• Living and creation allowance of NT$1,000 per day, up to NT$90,000 for a maximum of 90 days. The allowance includes applicable tax and health-insurance deductions; foreign withholding rates are stated as 6-20 percent.

• Accommodation, bicycle, shared studio, multimedia equipment, and small tools.

• Creation-material and exhibition-business budget up to NT$150,000 including tax. The organizer handles procurement and reimbursement; this budget is not paid directly to the artist.

Application Method

• Apply through the AIR in Tainan online system before the deadline.

• Selection results are scheduled to be announced in November 2026 through official websites and by email.

Additional Conditions Stated by the Organizer

• Selected artists must separately pay stamp tax equal to 0.1 percent of the subsidy total.

• Payments are made in installments under government accounting procedures. The official call asks selected artists to prepare approximately NT$15,000-20,000 for at least one month of living costs while payment is processed.

• Accommodation is for the selected artist only; companions, family members, assistants, and pets cannot stay in the artist residence.

• Assistant personnel, creation, transport, and living expenses must be included within the approved allocation and are not funded separately.
