BC Indigenous-Led Digital and Media Arts Groups: 2026 Arts Pilot Funding Up to C$25,000
British Columbia's Indigenous Arts Program Pilot has a separate grant stream specifically for Indigenous-led ORGANISATIONS AND COLLECTIVES, including eligible groups working in media arts and visual or interdisciplinary creation. It aims to support First Nations, Inuit and Métis-led artistic and cultural initiatives that benefit communities across the Canadian province.
SUBMISSION DEADLINE — Thursday 12 November 2026 at 11:59 pm Pacific time. New applicants need to request grant-system registration by Wednesday 4 November 2026. Pilot application-support arrangements for qualifying groups facing access or technical barriers should be requested by 29 October, according to the official programme instructions.
WHO CAN APPLY — BC Arts Council's pilot announcement identifies Indigenous-led registered non-profits, Indigenous collectives and First Nations governing bodies among the target organisations. The collective or institution must satisfy the specific Indigenous governance, provincial and programme criteria. A solo freelancer or informal group working under an artist's personal application generally belongs in the separate Individuals, Groups and Collaborations stream.
GRANT SCALES — The entire pilot provides three levels: micro grants of up to C$5,000, mid-scale grants of C$5,001–15,000 and large-scale grants of C$15,001–25,000. The permitted amount and costs for a particular collective or organisation depend on the organisational programme guidelines. Award decisions are competitive and subject to available funding.
WHAT MEDIA-ART PROJECTS ARE POSSIBLE? — The supported fields explicitly include Media Arts, Visual Arts, Indigenous Cultural Practice and Interdisciplinary/Multidisciplinary Arts. A group developing Indigenous-led community media-art workshops, new exhibition presentation or culturally grounded film and digital-art work may explore eligibility. It is not an unrestricted business grant for any technology studio.
LEADERSHIP AND CULTURAL CONSENT — Before applying, show who controls artistic and governance decisions, how the community shapes the project, how cultural material is authorised and how media recordings and creative rights are managed. If a digital archive or filmed presentation includes restricted cultural knowledge, discuss consent, access and the intended audience with the relevant Indigenous knowledge holders.
APPLICATION PROCESS — Review the Organisational and Collective Programme Guidelines, relevant application preview for grant size, checklist, FAQ and glossary. Assemble current governing documents, leadership, previous arts activity, programme and partner details, artists' fees, timelines and a realistic project budget. Accessibility and language support can be requested through the official programme team.
ABOUT THE ORGANISER — BC Arts Council is British Columbia's provincial public arts funder. It announced the Indigenous Arts Program Pilot in September 2026 following advice from the Joint Indigenous Arts Advisory Circle, and separates individually led projects from non-profit and collectively led cultural organisations.
