Chiayi International Three Minutes Video Competition 2027: Worldwide Film and Media-Art Prize
The Chiayi City Government Cultural Affairs Bureau in Taiwan invites filmmakers and media artists from all countries to enter the 2027 International Three Minutes Video Competition. Individual creators and teams may apply without nationality, age or gender restrictions. Entry is free, with major awards including Gold TWD 360,000, Silver TWD 300,000 and Bronze TWD 240,000.
The official FilmFreeway schedule and Chinese-language rules give 30 November 2026 as the final entry date. However, an English instruction on the submission page says to enter before November 29. Given this discrepancy, applicants should upload no later than 29 November and confirm the deadline in the live platform. The work must have been completed after 30 November 2025 and must run from 3 minutes 00 seconds through 3 minutes 59 seconds inclusive of titles and end credits.
An unusually important restriction applies to AI and animation: the combined amount of non-camera-produced footage—including AI-generated scenes, 2D or 3D animation, CGI and motion graphics—may not exceed 60 seconds within the whole video. This contest is not a venue for an entirely AI-generated three-minute film. Most of the piece needs camera-recorded footage, even though digital effects and experimental editing may be used within the allowance.
The first-stage application requires a H.264 MOV or MP4 film at a resolution of at least 1920×1080, a synopsis in BOTH Chinese (maximum 250 characters) AND English (maximum 100 words), three high-resolution stills, and a director biography in BOTH Chinese (maximum 200 characters) AND English (maximum 50 words). Previously awarded entries in THIS Chiayi competition, or videos reusing footage from such entries, cannot be resubmitted; winning an unrelated festival is not stated as an automatic exclusion. Entries must retain Taiwan-premiere eligibility and obtain permissions for third-party footage, music and other materials.
If shortlisted, participants will be asked to submit a subtitle-free screening master, English SRT subtitles and rights declarations by 13 January 2027. Awards are expected to be announced following the shortlist at the end of December. The regulations include a five-year non-commercial exhibition and promotional license for winning pieces, and tax withholding may apply to awards.
