Culture Moves Europe 2026–27: Residency Hosts Can Apply for €50 per Artist per Day
A 2026–27 residency grant for organisations that can HOST artists
The European Commission's Culture Moves Europe programme opened its new call for residency hosts on 15 October 2026, with a closing date of 18 January 2027. This is for organisations and qualifying legal entities established in Creative Europe participating countries that can organise a residency for one to five international artists or cultural professionals from other eligible countries. Visual art, design, fashion, architecture, literature, music and the performing arts are covered.
Importantly, this is not a contest in which an individual artist abroad simply applies to be one of the future resident artists. The applicant for this first phase is the residency host, which needs the premises, mentor, administrative capacity and concept for a collaborative international project. Artists wishing to travel to work with a partner should distinguish this scheme from the separate Culture Moves Europe Individual Mobility call.
Hosting rate, participant allowances and travel
For the **2026–27 call**, the European Commission's current page specifies €50 **per resident per day** as the hosting allowance. Each resident also receives a €30 daily allowance, plus travel support of €400 for a return trip under 5,000 kilometres or €800 from 5,000 kilometres, calculated using the programme's distance rules. Certain circumstances permit additional green travel, family, visa or accessibility supplements.
These are separate components assigned to distinct purposes. The host receives the grant and must distribute the amounts designated for residents according to the programme's rules; the full grant total is not a discretionary cash prize for the institution. Readers may encounter €35 and €25 rates in archived information about earlier rounds. Those are not the rates displayed on the current 2026–27 host call, so use the newly issued rules.
Who may host and what the project must accomplish
Eligible applicants include nonprofits, cultural centres, foundations, museums, municipalities, businesses and appropriately registered self-employed artists, provided the legal entity is established in a Creative Europe country and active in the relevant cultural sectors. Each proposal must plan for one to five visiting artists and pursue at least two goals: to create, to explore, to learn, to connect or to transform.
A photography centre could host peers developing new visual stories, a design organisation could set up a collaborative workshop, or a media-art studio could investigate interactive exhibition techniques. These are examples of suitable project logic, not guarantees of funding. The host must provide safe accommodation and workspaces, equipment adequate for the proposed project, and at least one artistic mentor.
Two-stage selection and future dates
In Stage 1 the host submits a proposal and proof of legal registration, organisational portfolio or activity report, and a short mentor CV. The portal accepts applications in English. Applicants are expected to hear results by 9 March 2027. Only hosts selected in Stage 1 move to Stage 2, where they choose the resident artists and provide residency information cards by the programme's later deadline.
The earliest stated residency start is 12 April 2027. The new programme asks hosts to plan realistic accommodation, work facilities, production safety, travel logistics and professional guidance before applying. Artistic applicants who have not yet been invited by a selected host should not interpret the January deadline as their own individual artist deadline.
Who runs the scheme? Auditable European cultural support
Culture Moves Europe is funded by the European Union's Creative Europe programme and delivered through the Goethe-Institut. Its previous cycles have supported numerous mobility and residency projects; the European Commission publishes selected projects and documented funding activity. The programme's official 2026–27 portal specifies separate host and resident support, which allows applicants to verify legitimate payment conditions.
