The European Hybrid Intelligence Network (EHIN), co-funded by Creative Europe, seeks artists and collectives for six European art-science residencies investigating intelligence and information processing in living systems such as plants, fungi, microorganisms and animals. The initiative explores how biological systems may inspire alternatives to conventional computing, and welcomes interdisciplinary digital art, scientific and experimental artistic research.

Apply by 4 December 2026 at 23:59, according to the organizer's announcement. Selected projects develop between February 2027 and January 2028 in a residency lasting almost twelve months, with exhibitions at the chosen host and in a collective presentation at ZKM in Germany. Artists also document the process and conduct two public research sessions called Open Dirty Labs.

Applicants must choose only one of six participating institutions: Kersnikova (Slovenia); Centre for the Promotion of Science (Serbia); Gluon (Belgium); LABoral (Spain); ZKM (Germany); or Kontejner (Croatia). Their proposal should respond to the selected institution's scientific and cultural context and the investigation of non-human living intelligence.

For its LABoral-hosted residency in Gijón, the organizer describes up to €25,000 to cover the artist's fees and the costs of producing the work. This is a combined upper limit, not a guaranteed €25,000 personal cash award. Accommodation, travel support within EU-imposed limits, curatorial and production advice, access to facilities and a research visit to another EHIN institution are included in the programme design.

Eligibility is geographically restricted. Applicants must live or be tax resident in an EU Member State or in an eligible non-EU country listed in the full official applicant guide. The phrase 'international call' does not mean worldwide eligibility regardless of residence. Creators based elsewhere should verify their precise eligibility before undertaking the application.

Apply exclusively via the official online application form linked from LABoral's page and read the EHIN Guide for Applicants for selection and budget conditions. This is an editorial summary of an external call, not an eligibility decision. The official guide determines residence restrictions, expenses, intellectual property, project duties and submission requirements. Our website also explains the Aion Digital Art Prize and paid call listings.
