An international residency prize for three artists interested in cultural exchange and community dialogue at Casa Wabi in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Official Call / Opportunity Page URL: https://casawabi.org/en/events/fundacion-casa-wabi-artreview-prize-2026/
Deadline: 14 June 2026. The official page lists applications opening on 11 May, winners notified on 27 July, and public announcement on 31 July.
Application Fee / Participation Fee: No application fee is stated on the official page. Selected artists are responsible for their international airfare or other transportation to Mexico City.
Eligibility: Artists from any discipline may apply, regardless of background, age, nationality, or career stage. Collaborative applications are allowed, but collectives must consist of no more than two members and should show an established collaborative practice.
Application / Project Requirements
Applicants submit one PDF file under 25 MB, in English or Spanish.
The PDF should include a brief proposal for a reciprocal community project around Casa Wabi, up to five images or video links summarizing the applicant’s artistic practice, and a CV of no more than two pages.
The residency is not production-based. Residents are expected to carry out a community project and leave a “Log” or “Bitacora” reflecting their time at Casa Wabi.
Prize / Benefits
Approximately five to six weeks at Casa Wabi in 2027, with specific dates coordinated after selection.
Local flight from Mexico City to Puerto Escondido, private bungalow with bathroom, studio space, and three meals per day.
Project support for the approved community project.
Application Method
Apply through the Airtable application link on the official Casa Wabi page. The page notes that the application platform does not generate a confirmation email; selected applicants will be notified directly by email.
Recommended for
Artists working across visual art, film, sound, performance, installation, social practice, or interdisciplinary fields who want to develop a community-oriented project in Mexico.
Notes for Applicants
This is a strong opportunity, but applicants outside Mexico should calculate the cost of travel to Mexico City, because the prize covers the local flight from Mexico City to Puerto Escondido but not international travel.
