The ninth John Ruskin Prize in the United Kingdom invites artists, designers and makers aged 18 or older from all countries to enter work responding to the theme 'Not for Present Delight'. The call includes digital art, animation, moving image, photography, performance documentation, installation, print and other contemporary or traditional media. It asks how art might address responsibility, social conditions and future generations.

Eligibility and creative categories

Works must have been created within the previous four years. Individuals and collectives are welcome. All initial judging takes place digitally: applicants prepare up to three JPEG images per artwork, each under 5 MB, and film or video in MP4 or MOV format of up to ten minutes at submission. Longer pieces may be discussed for the exhibition stage. International entrants selected for exhibition can show their work digitally without mandatory physical shipping.

Timing and entry requirements

Applications close Tuesday, November 17, 2026, at 17:00 UK time. This is a paid call, not a free competition. Published standard entry tiers are £25 for one artwork, £40 for two and £50 for three; under-26 and international digital entry options have different tiers. The published international digital guide shows £15, £20 and £30 for one, two or three works respectively, but applicants must verify the actual charge in the current ArtOpps checkout before paying.

Awards and key cautions

First Prize is £3,000; additional distinctions include £1,000 for an artist under 26, £3,000 for a functional craft object, £2,500 for an unrepresented mid-career artist and a People's Choice award of £500 in art supplies. The planned exhibition is at London's Trinity Buoy Wharf. If an artwork sells there, The Big Draw takes a 30% commission. Review publicity licences, original authorship and third-party rights in the official entry terms.
