Jumping Frames 2027 Hong Kong: Worldwide AI, Dance and Moving-Image Art Open Call, 16 December Deadline
Jumping Frames – Hong Kong International Movement-image Festival, presented by City Contemporary Dance Company, invites filmmakers, dance artists, video artists and creative teams worldwide to enter its 2027 international competition. The theme ‘Copy Right Copy Left’ explores appropriation, reconstruction, creative influence, choreography, archival footage and AI-generated images, with particular attention to the relationship between bodies and screens. The festival is planned for August 2027 in Hong Kong.
The final submission deadline is 16 December 2026, with an early-bird window from 28 October to 6 November, a regular window from 7 to 26 November, and a final round from 7 to 16 December. Films must be no longer than 20 minutes and have been completed after 30 June 2025. Individual creators or groups may enter; more than one work per applicant is permitted. Any film genre is eligible, although works should respond to the event's movement-image focus.
Competition submissions are free in the early-bird period for standard and student applicants. In the regular period, FilmFreeway lists US$30 for standard entries, while students may still submit free. In the final period standard entries cost US$50 and student entries US$10. Non-competition submissions are free across the announced windows. Verify the applicable price and available date in FilmFreeway before paying.
Prizes announced include a US$2,000 International Award, a US$1,200 Asia Award, an US$800 Expanded Frames Award, a US$500 Special Jury Award, a US$500 Student Award, a US$300 Audience Award and an HK$10,000 Ringo Chan Award. Only Hong Kong permanent residents may compete for the Ringo Chan Award. Student Award applicants must document full-time education. The amounts are prizes for selected winners, not participation fees or payments to every entrant.
Films with dialogue in languages other than English require subtitles. Exhibition files, if selected, are expected as MPEG4 or QuickTime H264/ProRes 422 in 1920×1080, with listed technical frame-rate, bitrate and AAC sound requirements. Entrants must own or be authorized to represent the film's rights. The agreement includes 48 months of festival archival/educational retention and permission to use excerpts for promotion, with additional festival screening terms for winners.
