Glasgow Market Gallery Studio Projects Residencies 2026/27: Two Funded Places, Apply by 25 October
A funded opportunity for Glasgow-based artists
Market Gallery, an artist-run contemporary-art organisation in Glasgow, is inviting applications for two Studio Project Residencies in 2026/27. The application deadline is 11:59 pm local time on 25 October 2026, with decisions scheduled for 30 October. Eligible applicants are emerging artists based in Glasgow who would benefit from sustained time for reflection, research or making. One of the two opportunities is reserved for a person with caregiving responsibilities.
Residency timetable and public sharing
The programme provides ten working days, arranged flexibly across one month: December 2026 (approximately 30 November to 4 January) or January 2027 (approximately 5 January to 1 February). Selected artists will later share their work or research publicly, in February or March 2027. The residency is not limited to a traditional gallery exhibition; the format is developed with the Market Gallery artist committee to suit an individual practice. Film, moving-image, digital and cross-disciplinary artists should check the project-fit criteria.
Funding and practical support
The published 2026/27 call describes an artist fee of £1,415, a £700 residency production budget, a £212 sharing-event fee and a £380 sharing-event production budget, with access to the gallery studio and resources and mentoring from its artist committee. These are payments or allocated budgets for successful residents, not fees applicants must pay to apply. An access budget is also available for relevant participation or caring needs; collective applicants would share the artist fee.
Eligibility and applications
The scheme is intended for artists living and working in Glasgow, especially those at an emerging stage and without a recent major opportunity. Current students are not eligible during the residency period. Applications are submitted through the forms linked from Market Gallery's 2026/27 announcement, with corresponding equal-opportunities monitoring information. Refer to that announcement for supported alternative formats, access support and the exact form links.
The organiser and its record
Market Gallery is a Glasgow East End artist-run cultural organisation established in 2000. It presents contemporary exhibitions, screenings, artist talks, creative research and residencies. Its past programmes include moving-image exchange projects and residencies by emerging artists; these activities provide a public record of the organisation's practice and its support network.
Before submitting
Ensure you are Glasgow-based, meet the emerging-artist and study-status conditions, and can spend the ten residency days within the specified month. Confirm the amounts and scope of each budget directly with the host, including what may be used for equipment, transport and the public presentation. Apply via Market Gallery, not an unrelated pay-to-apply listing.
