MicroActs, the London artist-film screening initiative established in 2017, is inviting submissions for two spring and summer 2027 events. The open call welcomes short works from filmmakers internationally, with London in-person programmes in April and June 2027. Its central format is accessible to artists working in experimental video, animation and unusual personal narratives: a film approximately six minutes or shorter.

Submission dates and costs

The published early-bird deadline is December 10, 2026, with a US$9 standard submission fee. The final deadline is January 10, 2027, with a US$12 standard fee. The listing also gives February 19, 2027, as the notification date. These are FilmFreeway listing amounts; confirm the final checkout charges before payment.

International eligibility and film format

MicroActs welcomes submissions from around the world, and the theme and medium are open. Films not in English must be provided with English subtitles. Works drawing on personal experiences, experimental technique and diverse viewpoints are expressly encouraged. The approximate six-minute maximum matters more than adherence to one particular commercial genre.

Online streaming: check rights before applying

In addition to live London screenings, selected films will be streamed free on MicroActs' YouTube channel for one week following the in-person event. The organisers also request permission to use still images and very short promotional clips while copyright remains with the filmmaker. If you have music rights, a premiere agreement or a future distribution deal that prevents online public access, assess this term carefully before submitting.

Organiser background and fee relief

MicroActs describes itself as a volunteer-run, not-for-profit artist-film project that has presented recurring community screenings for several years. Its profile includes public reviews and named organisers. The official terms invite filmmakers facing financial hardship to contact the organisers about a submission fee waiver.

How to submit

Prepare a film no longer than about six minutes, add English subtitles if required, review the streaming permission clauses and submit using the official FilmFreeway listing by the deadline. Information reviewed October 25, 2026; the organiser's current listing is the definitive source.
