1.4 Awards Show 2027: Animation, VFX and Experimental Music Video Calls Close 20 January
A short-form film award for visual and music-led creators
The 1.4 Awards Show is an international showcase of short-form directing and moving-image craft. For its 2027 awards it welcomes Animation/VFX, Music Video, Special Music Project, Personal Project and many other short-form categories. This is relevant to digital artists, visual designers and filmmakers whose work combines animation, generative or rendered visuals, editing and music.
New category: Special Music Project
The 2027 categories include a new Special Music Project area for visual storytelling that extends beyond a conventional music video: multi-track pieces, EP visuals, artist-led short films, narratives around recordings and interactive or experimental formats. Animation/VFX focuses on films with a substantial animated or computer-generated component. Some categories are restricted by career stage, so applicants must choose their experience division and creative category carefully.
Dates and deliverable specifications
According to the organizer, the early-bird deadline is 16 November 2026, the standard deadline 16 December 2026 and the final deadline 20 January 2027. Eligible single-film entries generally run under 20 minutes, were created after January 2025 and must not have been entered into a previous 1.4 edition. Stated digital media specifications are MOV or MP4, up to 1 GB, with at least 1920×1080 resolution and H.264 encoding.
Costs, selection and visibility
This is a paid-entry awards programme, and fees depend on experience category and timing. Check the current 2027 entry-fees page before paying; older fee schedules remain searchable online. An international jury selects longlisted, shortlisted and winning work. The organiser plans the 2027 awards showcase in London in late spring and provides digital laurels and editorial exposure for selected directors.
Who runs it and what to check
The 1.4 Awards platform publishes its own entry rules, category descriptions, deadlines and jury information, along with coverage of previous winning work. Confirm whether your project is a music video, a Special Music Project or an Animation/VFX submission; different definitions can materially affect eligibility. Information checked against the current 2027 Entry Info on 24 October 2026.
