Quirino Awards 2027: Ibero-American Animation, 23 Eligible Countries, AI-Generated Final Content Banned

Eligibility and festival sections

The tenth Quirino Awards will recognise animation produced across Ibero-America at an April 23, 2027 ceremony in Tenerife, Spain. This is not an unrestricted worldwide contest: a film must have majority production from at least one of 23 eligible countries, including Spain, Portugal, Andorra and specified Latin American countries. A Japanese or other outside-country production alone does not qualify unless it meets the official co-production test.

How to enter

Seven main awards consider animated features, series, shorts, school shorts, music videos, commissioned works and video-game animation released between June 1, 2025 and December 31, 2026. Six categories also compete automatically for technical awards including sound design and original music. Crucially, the 2027 rules prohibit generative-AI content in the final screenplay, images, animation, voices, audio or music. Limited assisting uses, such as research or translation, are allowed but generative final audiovisual material is not.

Deadline, costs and rights

Apply only through Festhome by November 25, 2026 at 23:59 Mexico time (GMT−6). The Quirino Awards charge no submission fee, but Festhome imposes its own platform service cost depending on the work. Applicants must be adults aged 18 or more; films normally need English subtitles, except music videos. The award is primarily recognition and industry access, not a fixed cash payment. Nominated teams receive a single representative's lodging and subsistence, with travel included for some film categories.

This is an independent editorial translation of an external call. Always confirm eligibility, deadlines, platform charges, formats, rights and screening permissions in the organiser's latest official rules.
