Raindance Immersive 2027: VR, AR and Virtual Worlds International Open Call, £38 Early Entry
London's Raindance Film Festival is inviting immersive creators around the world to enter its 2027 edition, including virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality, multiplayer live VR performance, independent immersive games and social virtual worlds. The early-entry deadline is December 7, 2026, with further paid entry periods in January and March 2027. A conventional 2D short film cannot be entered in the immersive category merely because it has experimental imagery.
Accepted immersive work and technical requirements
Raindance accepts interactive or linear immersive experiences, 6DoF formats and content running on platforms such as PCVR, Meta Quest or social VR environments. Creators may share Windows executable or Quest APK demo builds using accessible cloud links so that selection staff can test them in headsets. Works already released on mainstream VR platforms may be submitted, but the festival asks for four download keys. The film-side rules separately include a completion-date requirement of after January 1, 2026; creators should check how this applies to their precise submission category.
Application fees by stage
The 2027 immersive fee schedule is £38 for an entry submitted by December 7, 2026; £49 for the regular period ending January 18, 2027; and £66 for the late deadline on March 8, 2027. The organizer states that entry fees are non-refundable and paid by credit card. FilmFreeway Gold members may qualify for a 10% discount, while Raindance Create membership includes a distinct annual entry benefit, subject to the current conditions.
How the work will be selected
Raindance emphasizes narrative quality, independent production and innovative forms of storytelling. Its festival includes films and immersive experiences as separate routes; applicants should not send PCVR or virtual-world software in a conventional film-category application. Complete the festival form on FilmFreeway, identify the target headset or platform, and provide clear build instructions, any passwords and evidence of the right to display all included artwork, sound and footage.
Organizer reputation and opportunities
Raindance is a long-running independent film festival and training organization based in London, with a documented record of showcasing first-time filmmakers and experimentation in moving-image media. Selection brings a festival presentation opportunity, not an automatic salary, equipment grant or compensation for overseas travel. The organizer lists May 16, 2027 as the notification date.
Immersive submission dates: December 7, 2026 (early, £38); January 18, 2027 (regular, £49); March 8, 2027 (late, £66).
