Sony Future Filmmaker Awards 2027: Free Worldwide Animation and Immersive Video Call
The Sony Future Filmmaker Awards are accepting free worldwide entries for 2027 in Fiction, Non-Fiction, Animation, Immersive, Student and Future Format. This international programme offers a competition and, for selected filmmakers, an industry experience at Sony Pictures Studios in Los Angeles. Its Immersive category, presented by Meta, is new for 2027 and focuses on pre-rendered immersive video.
Eligibility and creative categories
Animation entries must be 2–20 minutes long and contain at least 75% animation. Immersive submissions must be 5–20 minutes, in supported 3D, VR180 or 360-degree video formats. Conventional augmented reality, mixed reality and interactive XR applications are not eligible as such. Future Format focuses on original 9:16 vertical films lasting 2–5 minutes rather than repurposed horizontal clips. Check the specific category before choosing a submission.
Timing and entry requirements
Entries are free and the deadline is December 15, 2026. Eligible works must have been released from January 1, 2025, to December 15, 2026. Applicants need a hosted film screener link that remains available through July 2027, with English subtitles where appropriate. Immersive applicants also provide a downloadable direct file link. A mere downloadable file is insufficient for the ordinary video categories. All entrants must hold the copyright to their submitted film.
Awards and key cautions
Shortlisted artists in specified categories and the Future Format winner may be flown to Los Angeles for the industry programme, with travel and accommodation provided. Category winners receive category-dependent equipment and prizes; a uniform cash award for all entrants is not promised. Film clips and stills may be required for promotion if shortlisted.
