West Yorkshire Youth Campaign Competition 2026: Digital Design and 30-Second Video Entries for Ages 11–25
West Yorkshire Combined Authority is inviting young people to imagine a fresh public-safety campaign that could become a real campaign across the region. The authority welcomes SHORT VIDEO, digital design, storyboards, posters, photography and writing. For film and media-art learners, this is a chance to translate a social message into effective visual storytelling, rather than to submit a conventional fiction film for a cash prize.
WHO IS ALLOWED TO ENTER — Applicants must be aged 11 to 25 AND live, study or work in WEST YORKSHIRE in the United Kingdom. Individuals can enter independently or in groups through a school, youth club or another organisation. This is genuinely location-restricted: a 20-year-old resident outside West Yorkshire who has no educational or employment connection to the area is not eligible simply because the campaign is available online.
SUBMISSION DEADLINE — Midnight on MONDAY 30 NOVEMBER 2026, according to the government organiser. Entry is FREE. Under-18s need a parent or guardian to complete the consent section of the form; it is not enough for an adult to say informally that the young person may enter.
THE CREATIVE BRIEF — Explain how children and young people could stay safe from gangs, crime and peer pressure while supporting one another. Your idea should feel positive, relevant and constructive, not stigmatise young people or accuse identifiable persons of criminal activity. Organisers ask the applicant to explain the audience, key message, why it matters and how it might make a positive difference.
ACCEPTED MEDIA — A short video must be NO LONGER THAN 30 SECONDS. Other accepted formats include drawings, posters, photos, digital designs, written concepts and storyboards. Therefore entrants without video editing skills can still compete. The project should communicate the campaign concept rather than just display effects or transitions.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE RULE — The organiser allows AI-assisted entries, but explicitly requires disclosure of which portions were made with AI. Entrants should credit generated imagery, scripts or editing assistance honestly, and avoid showing sensitive private information about themselves or others. Check terms for use rights on original footage, licensed music, photographs and contributions by friends.
HOW TO SUBMIT A VIDEO — Send the film by the organiser's designated Dropbox upload link, THEN complete the competition entry form so staff can associate the file with the entrant. Non-video ideas can be described through the same form. An alternative email or freepost submission is provided for people who cannot use the online form, with contact Communications.PC@westyorks-ca.gov.uk.
PRIZE — The chosen concept is developed into a REAL West Yorkshire campaign with a professional creative company, and the winner has an opportunity to meet the Mayor and Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime. The official competition page does NOT offer a stated cash-prize amount. It would be misleading to advertise a paid media commission or a guaranteed cash award.
ORGANISER AND SAFETY — West Yorkshire Combined Authority is the regional public authority covering Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield. The initiative follows its Serious Violence Strategy and consultation with young people. Because this deals with potentially distressing issues, the authority also links support for young people affected by crime or violence.
