- EYC Lights Parade Poster Contest 2026: US Artists Can Win $2,500 — Apply by 21 October
Artists residing in the United States have until 21 October 2026 to submit original two-dimensional poster artwork for the Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade competition in Annapolis, Maryland. The winning entry receives a US$2,500 prize and will be associated with the annual lighted-boat parade. Organised through the Maryland Federation of Art (MFA), the competition is open to appropriate original 2D media but has specific size, copyright and physical-artwork conditions; it is not a free, international, digital-only open call. Who is eligible and what should the poster show? The call is open to artists residing in the United States. The work should represent the Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade, including Annapolis imagery, decorated boats and the club's burgee. An illustrator, printmaker, painter or digital designer may find it relevant if the proposed original artwork meets the official presentation rules. Do not submit a generic boat image: a locally recognisable composition is central to the brief. Two-dimensional work and AI restrictions Original two-dimensional artwork is required. The host explicitly excludes AI-generated images, so artists must be able to stand behind the originality of the submitted piece. Entries need to meet the physical size requirements, which include a minimum of 18 by 24 inches and a maximum dimension of 36 inches including framing. Confirm acceptable media, edge dimensions and whether a digital print needs to be supplied as a physical original. How many entries and how to upload An applicant may enter no more than two eligible works made within the past three years. The entry portal requires JPEG reproductions within its technical limits: a longest side between 1,500 and 3,000 pixels, and a maximum image-file size of 5 MB. Clear image quality matters for a graphic-design competition; save an archival, print-ready version separately in case the work is selected. Entry fee, prize and sale terms The entry fee is US$10 for one or two works and is non-refundable. The selected winning artist receives US$2,500. Artists should also read the organiser's online-sales requirements: work must be listed for sale through MFA's online gallery, with a published commission of 20% (or 15% for MFA members). That commission is distinct from the $10 entry fee and may materially affect whether participation is attractive. Important: rights and delivery of the original The winning artist must grant Eastport Yacht Club an irrevocable licence to use the image and provide the original physical artwork as a gift, under the contest's terms. This is a significant rights-and-property obligation. Artists who normally license their images for limited uses, or who would not want to part with the original, should decide whether these conditions are acceptable before entering; do not judge the opportunity solely by the headline prize. Timeline The online entry deadline is 21 October 2026. The winner is scheduled to be announced on 12 November, followed by an online exhibition from 13 November through 31 December. Applicants close to the deadline should account for the US time zone used on the MFA website; no particular local closing hour is assumed here unless explicitly stated by the submission portal. About the organisers The Maryland Federation of Art is a long-running artist organisation and exhibition platform based in Annapolis. The Eastport Yacht Club's annual Lights Parade is an established local maritime event whose illuminated boats inspire the poster commission. The artistic brief, winner use of imagery and exhibition details are hosted on the MFA's official competition page, not an unofficial contest aggregator. Official application and disclosure The current 2026 competition rules, entry portal and image requirements are at https://mdfedart.com/portfolio/eyc/ . Read the complete prospectus before paying. As of 20 October 2026 this is a short-deadline US-resident opportunity; artists outside the US, users of AI-generated art and applicants unwilling to accept the winner's image licence should seek another call.
- Playful Obscura 2027: Africa-Based Game Artists Invited to Addis Ababa Residency by 1 November
Playful Obscura, an experimental-games and interactive-art initiative, is inviting Africa-based creators to apply for its third Arthouse Games Residency. Two artists will be selected for an in-person programme in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 25 January to 14 February 2027. Applications close on 1 November 2026. The residency is designed for playable art, experimental video games, digital interaction and unconventional interactive narratives—not commercial game development alone. Who can apply? The call is open to artists based on the African continent. Location eligibility matters: although the residency features international institutional partners, applicants outside Africa should not treat it as a worldwide open call. Creators working at the intersection of visual art, game design, interactive media, technology and storytelling may find a good fit. Applicants should show both artistic intent and the practical ability to develop a playable or interactive work during an intensive residency. What kind of project is the jury looking for? The programme foregrounds art games: projects that experiment with the logic, aesthetics or political and social possibilities of play. The proposal need not mimic a mainstream entertainment title. It might be a playable essay, an interactive story, a participatory digital environment or a hybrid form combining game mechanics with installation. Explain what audiences can do, how that interaction advances the artistic idea, and what a realistic three-week prototype could achieve. Dates and location Selected participants will work in Addis Ababa for three weeks from 25 January to 14 February 2027. The deadline for the online application is 1 November 2026. An online information session is scheduled for 22 October at 13:00 South African Standard Time, offering an opportunity to check technical, travel and project requirements before applying. Confirm any time-zone conversions yourself. Funding: distinguish production from living support The announced package includes return flights and local ground transport, residency accommodation and workspace. Each artist can receive up to €1,000 toward approved production costs, subject to the programme's requirements and receipts. In addition, the living allowance is €300 per participant for the entire three-week period—not €300 per week. These are different budget lines, so applicants should plan food, personal costs and any extra equipment separately. Artistic support and visibility The residency brings together artists and creative-technology partners in an interdisciplinary setting. Outcomes may have an opportunity for presentation within the A MAZE. Berlin 2027 context, but applicants must not mistake that possible visibility for a guaranteed screening, trip or cash prize. A clear prototype plan, production milestones and a presentation-ready description are worth preparing. Who organises it? Playful Obscura works with the Goethe-Institut, A MAZE., the British Council and partners in Ethiopia including Creative HUB Ethiopia and Alliance Ethio-Française. The Goethe-Institut is Germany's international cultural institute, and A MAZE. is recognised for experimental game and digital-art events. The programme is in its third edition, making its artistic premise more established than an isolated anonymous online contest. Suggested portfolio and proposal A concise portfolio should identify your personal role in previous interactive projects. Include links to playable builds or videos whenever permitted; add a short statement about the concept, desired audience experience, necessary software or hardware, and a credible three-week production schedule. Keep in mind practical questions such as whether work can be shown offline, power and equipment needs, and accessibility for audiences. Apply using the official source The Goethe-Institut hosts the full call and online application information: https://www.goethe.de/ins/za/en/m/kul/mut/p27.html . Read the current eligibility and privacy terms before uploading documents or booking travel. This notice was prepared against published information available on 20 October 2026; the organiser's current application page controls the final details.
- Northwest Territories Medium Arts Project Grant 2026/27: C$5,001–15,000 for Local Digital & Media Artists
Artists and organisations based in Canada's Northwest Territories (NWT) can apply to the territory's Medium Arts Project Grant programme for the final 2026–27 intake, closing 31 October 2026. Administered by the Government of the Northwest Territories through the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment, the competitive programme supports medium-sized creative projects with awards between C$5,001 and C$15,000. Digital art, film and media arts are among the expressly eligible disciplines. Eligible artistic activities The funding covers creation, production, presentation, training and artistic development. Its published discipline list includes digital art, film and media arts, visual arts, music and sound, performance, crafts, literature and multidisciplinary approaches. Examples worth checking for eligibility include a local interactive-media exhibition, digital moving-image production, professional media-art development or a public-facing multidisciplinary programme. Eligibility for individual artists Individual applicants must have lived in the Northwest Territories for at least six months before applying and still reside there at the time of application. They must also have completed and reported on at least one project funded through the territory's Small Arts Project Grant. This second criterion is a significant eligibility gate: first-time applicants to territorial arts funding should not assume the medium-sized grant is open to them. Eligibility for organisations Applying organisations must be registered and in good standing with NWT Corporate Registries, have a mandate that supports the arts, and provide opportunities for local arts education, creation or exhibition. Organisations cannot receive Large Arts Project Fund or Arts Operating Fund support in the same fiscal year for the same purpose. Applicants using NWT resources and services receive preference. Award amount and deadline Funding requests must fall between C$5,001 and C$15,000. The 2026/27 programme lists three intake dates—1 May, 30 June and the final deadline of 31 October 2026. It is highly competitive, and approval is not guaranteed. Importantly, grant approval must precede the start of the supported activity: costs already incurred before approval will not be reimbursed. Required application documents The government asks for the completed grant form, evidence of artistic work (up to two short audio or video samples, selected writing examples or up to ten photographs), two signed support letters, an artistic résumé or organisational background and relevant cost quotes. Film and digital artists should select clear, representative excerpts and explain technical feasibility, audiences and the benefits to the NWT arts community. Submission and reporting Applications can be filed using the secure government file-transfer route, or through other official channels set out on the webpage, including ArtsFunding@gov.nt.ca. Applicants generally hear the result within 60 days of the deadline. Funded recipients must submit financial reporting within 60 days of completing their projects, so a workable budget and record-keeping process matter. Who runs the programme? The fund is administered by the Government of the Northwest Territories' Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment. That government department manages a portfolio of arts grants, with separate smaller and larger project schemes as alternatives when an artist does not meet this programme's conditions. Official guidelines and application https://www.iti.gov.nt.ca/en/services/medium-arts-project-grant Important note Reviewed against the territorial government page on 20 October 2026. This is a restricted NWT-based opportunity, not an international open call. Applicants should examine the full guidelines and grant rubric before submitting.
- Tacoma 2027 Community Arts Projects: $4,000 or $6,000 for Local Visual and Media Arts, 26 October Deadline
The City of Tacoma, Washington, invites locally based organisations and groups to seek Community Arts Projects support for the year 2027. The online application deadline is Monday 26 October 2026 at 11:59 pm local time. Eligible applicants can choose a request of US$4,000 or US$6,000 for public-facing arts activity taking place in Tacoma. ELIGIBILITY — The funding supports organisations and groups based in the city, with experience serving Tacoma communities. Examples of potentially eligible applicants include nonprofit corporations, organised groups with a shared cultural mission, qualifying tribes or Native nonprofits, and businesses or educational institutions presenting projects that are nonprofit in nature. The group must have offices or a place of business in Tacoma, or conduct the majority of its activities in Tacoma if it has no office. DIGITAL AND MEDIA ART — Applications are accepted across artistic disciplines. A public exhibition, screening, participatory media installation, creative workshop or similar community-facing visual project may be suitable if it meets the published guidelines. The city explicitly states that artistic and cultural components must be made, performed or created by humans. Digital-art applicants using generative tools need to consider that requirement carefully. GRANT SIZE AND TIMING — There are two advertised award options, $4,000 and $6,000. Supported activity must occur in Tacoma and be completed between 1 January and 31 December 2027. Awards are decided through competitive assessment, depend on available funds and require official city budget approval. This is not guaranteed support for every qualified applicant. PROGRAMME PRIORITIES — The city's Arts & Cultural Vitality programme values projects that are inclusive, accessible to the public and attentive to equity. The 2027 funding priorities also discuss applicants who are not already funded through Tacoma Creates. A strong proposal should describe its intended audience, venue or place, community partners, accessibility and delivery schedule. ABOUT THE FUNDER — Tacoma's Arts & Cultural Vitality Division administers local arts opportunities and publishes previous funded project examples. The city government announced the 2027 programme in September 2026 and provides its funding guidelines and online application pathway. The municipal source helps applicants assess the credibility and geographic limits of the programme. HOW TO APPLY — Read the 2027 Community Arts Projects Funding Guidelines and submit through the Tacoma Arts Submittable form. The official opportunities page identifies the programme administrator and contact route for eligibility questions. Do not treat the programme as a general US-wide artist grant: the Tacoma location conditions are substantive. OFFICIAL CITY ANNOUNCEMENT — https://tacoma.gov/news/application-for-2027-community-arts-projects-funding-now-available/ APPLICATION AND GUIDELINES — https://tacoma.gov/government/departments/arts-cultural-vitality/opportunities/ Information checked against the City of Tacoma's published 2027 notice on 20 October 2026.
- DDANS Art Contest 2027: Digital Entries for Artists with Developmental Disabilities by 30 November
Los Angeles-based DDANS Foundation is inviting digital first-round entries to its January 2027 art contest. The competition is intended for artists with developmental disabilities. Applicants should send image documentation of their artwork by 30 November 2026, with a later physical artwork intake for those selected in the first round. A digital application does not mean that only digitally produced art is eligible. DEADLINES — Online or email submissions opened on 18 August 2026 and close on 30 November 2026. First-round results are scheduled for 15 December 2026. Selected artists then arrange delivery of the original work between 16 December 2026 and 15 January 2027. The organiser asks finalists to call and schedule an appointment before bringing work in. WHO CAN ENTER — DDANS describes its programme as being for artists with developmental disabilities and states that applicants need not provide diagnoses or medical records. Its primary application page does not clearly announce a nationality restriction, but because selected works require physical delivery to Los Angeles, artists elsewhere should ask about transport options before entering. AWARDS — The announced prize pool is US$600 across six artists: $300 for first prize, $100 for second prize and four third prizes of $50 each. These amounts match the award tiers from the 2026 contest; winning is not guaranteed and prizes should not be confused with reimbursement of artwork transport costs. APPLICATION METHODS — The organiser describes an official Google form that may require sign-in to upload images, along with an equivalent no-login submission by email to contact@ddans.org. Its application page currently marks the form link as pending. One entry covers one artwork, with one to three clear images and a brief artist introduction. Keep a copy of your submission and avoid sending unnecessary sensitive records. ABOUT DDANS — The name means Developmental Disability Artist Needs Support. The foundation publishes information about its completed 2026 art contest and Los Angeles exhibition programming, including the 'Beyond the Senses' exhibition at Shatto Gallery. The earlier contest archive is a useful reference when evaluating the programme. BEFORE SUBMITTING — Ask the organisers about physical artwork delivery, any fees not stated on the application page and accessibility accommodations. The organiser requests that applicants not email medical records, exact birth dates or complete street addresses. Eligibility and artwork requirements must be read directly from the current call. OFFICIAL CONTEST — https://contest.ddans.org/?lang=en OFFICIAL SUBMISSION INFORMATION — https://contest.ddans.org/apply/?lang=en Organiser's current website and archived contest information checked on 20 October 2026.
- Winnipeg Individual Artist Grants 2027: C$3,000–7,000 for Local Film, Video and Media Artists — March Deadline
Winnipeg's next individual grant is for work beginning in mid-2027 Winnipeg Arts Council has scheduled its next Individual Artist Grant Program deadline for Tuesday 2 March 2027. It supports professional artists living and working in Winnipeg who create new works or develop, produce, curate or exhibit visual, film, video, media and other art forms. Applications for this 2027 round are not open as of 20 October 2026: the Council expects its 2027 guidelines and online intake to become available in mid-December 2026. Artists can begin considering a suitable project now, but must consult the documents issued for 2027 rather than submit an out-of-date form for September 2026. C$3,000 for emerging artists; C$7,000 for established practice The programme offers two funding categories determined by relevant professional experience. Category B grants can contribute up to C$3,000 for an emerging artist; Category A grants can contribute up to C$7,000 for mid-career or established artists. These amounts are upper limits and do not automatically reach every eligible applicant. Budget planning should identify the actual artistic activity, rights and materials, equipment rentals, collaborators, public presentation and necessary travel or facilities where guidelines allow. The Council also publishes a pathway for additional accessibility costs for eligible Deaf artists and artists with disabilities, subject to consultation. Who may apply: individual Winnipeg professionals, not outside companies This is a city-specific programme for individual professional artists working in Winnipeg, rather than a general Canadian or global media-arts scholarship. The proposed work should fall within an artist's established professional practice, and the applicant needs to satisfy the eligibility conditions detailed in the current guidance. Collaborations are not necessarily forbidden, but artists proposing a genuinely collective or jointly owned project may be directed to the Council's separate Project Grant Program. The Council asks collectives to consult its Grants Consultant in advance to decide which route applies. Experimental film, video art and digital installations A new experimental film, sound-image study, artistic software installation, moving-image exhibition, video-art presentation or interdisciplinary project can be a relevant proposal when the applicant's creative practice, originality and public or professional outcome fit the Council's artistic criteria. Applicants should not assume that any routine commercial video commission or purely technology-service contract qualifies. A good proposal will describe the artistic objectives, schedule, previous relevant work, role of collaborators and realistic financial and technical requirements. Planning can start before the portal opens, but project activities for this round should not begin before 1 June 2027. Deadlines and practical reporting The Council announces 2 March 2027 for applications. The 2027 project start is no earlier than 1 June 2027 and the French-language programme announcement gives 31 December 2028 as the outer completion limit. Applications are to be submitted via the official GoSmart portal after the mid-December 2026 opening. Successful artists must complete a final project report; the French grant guidance specifies submission within 90 days of the agreed project completion date. Eligibility rules, 2027 budgets and reporting templates may be revised before the online intake starts, so confirm the final published application package. How it differs from the Winnipeg arts organisations' grant The Council also operates a 2027 Project Grant Program for Winnipeg arts organisations and collectives, opening 2 November 2026 and closing 2 February 2027 with a different maximum of C$10,000. That is a distinct form designed for groups and organisational projects, not a second automatic award for the same individual applicant. Professional artists developing an original individual film or digital artwork should research the Individual Artist Grant first; incorporated institutions and collectives should evaluate the group programme with Council staff instead of submitting duplicate budgets. Council history, recipient record and secure application Winnipeg Arts Council is a long-established public arts-support organisation working in partnership with the City of Winnipeg. It publishes assessment practices, results and awarded grants in visual art, contemporary dance, film, video and interdisciplinary fields. Its publicly reported recipients include film and moving-image practitioners among the broader local artistic community, illustrating that eligibility is not restricted to painting or theatre. Applicants can consult the official programme pages in English and French, register at winnipegarts.gosmart.org when the 2027 portal opens, and contact its grants team rather than relying on agents promising an award. Official documents and application https://winnipegarts.ca/grants/individual-artist-grant-program-for-winnipeg-artists-working-in-all-disciplines https://winnipegarts.ca/grants/programme-de-subvention-aux-artistes-individuel
- Goethe-Institut Boston Studio 170 Residency 2027: New England Digital Artists, $1,000 Stipend, 22 November
New England digital and moving-image artists invited to Boston in 2027 The Goethe-Institut Boston has opened applications for its Studio 170 Artist Residency 2027. Artists and creative practitioners living and working in New England can propose an original project for the Institute's renovated Back Bay facilities. The currently advertised deadline is Sunday 22 November 2026 at 12:59pm Boston time. The selection panel will support two projects across the 2027 calendar year. Visual and digital practitioners are expressly included: moving-image installation, experimental projection, media-arts presentation, video screening and other hybrid formats are potential ways of using the space. The call is not an international all-nationalities online video prize. Residence and work in New England are both essential Applicants must both reside and work within the New England region of the United States; they should be able to demonstrate a record of past artistic projects. The organiser's public summary does not require applicants to be German citizens, and does not state that every New England applicant must be a student. However, someone based only in New York City, California, Germany or Japan is not ordinarily within the published regional remit. Artists should confirm whether their exact residential and work situation fits the organisers' rules before submitting, rather than rely on the availability of an internet form. Two-week artist residency, not a multi-month housing grant Two projects will be selected to take place during separate, mutually agreed two-week periods in 2027. The Goethe-Institut gives access to its Grand Hall, Reception Hall, entrance hall, front garden and back parking area as appropriate for the approved programme. These spaces can accommodate screenings, live audiovisual performance, installations and discussion formats, subject to technical constraints and safety arrangements. The residency is principally an opportunity to realise and present a planned project at the Institute; the public summary does not promise a private residential apartment or unrestricted accommodation for all participants. $1,000 artist stipend plus up to $1,000 production budget The organiser advertises an artist stipend of US$1,000 together with an additional production-cost budget of up to US$1,000, dependent on submission and approval of a detailed budget. These are two different kinds of support: the first is a contribution to the artist, the second covers approved project expenses, rather than an automatic $2,000 cash prize with no expense review. Selected teams also receive practical installation and organisational assistance, promotional support, a professionally produced descriptive video of their project and interview, and a light opening reception. Do not assume reimbursement of flights or substantial equipment purchases unless approved. Suggested themes are priorities rather than mandatory subjects Projects exploring Democracy, Sustainability and Decolonization or Memory Culture are especially encouraged by the 2027 call, but these themes are not stated as compulsory restrictions. The jury favours innovation and artistic experimentation and is open to different forms, including exhibition, performance, artist talks, film screenings and digital media. A proposal using interaction, projection mapping or computational visuals should still make the artistic question and public experience clear, alongside a practical equipment list, installation times, space requirements, visitor access and how the project engages Boston audiences. Application package and date caution The official Studio 170 programme page links to the online application route and a PDF describing the space. Prepare a portfolio or documentary evidence of earlier work, an accessible description of the proposed project, budget and technical needs, and availability for a two-week 2027 exhibition/presentation. The English programme page contains minor differing references to the application opening date, but the announced November 22, 2026 cutoff is consistent in its current public notice; check the application form itself for its time zone and closing controls. The unusual 12:59pm deadline should not be mistaken for 11:59pm. Organiser track record and application safety The Goethe-Institut is the Federal Republic of Germany's worldwide cultural institute and supports intercultural exhibitions, learning and artistic work through its branches. The Boston office has developed Studio 170 as an active laboratory, featuring multimedia installations, projection-equipped spaces and public events. A jury of regional artists and curators is selected anew each year. Applicants can verify the facilities, past programmes and Programme Director Annette Klein's contact address on the official Goethe-Institut site. Do not pay an agent for a purported guaranteed selection, and confirm local tax, insurance and technical conditions with the organiser before agreeing to the residency. - Winnipeg Arts Council 2027: Up to C$10,000 for Local Media Arts Organisations and Collectives — Opens 2 November
2027 project support for Winnipeg film, video and media arts groups The Winnipeg Arts Council has published its next Project Grant Program for Arts Organizations and Collectives. Applications are scheduled to open on Monday 2 November 2026 and close on Tuesday 2 February 2027. Awards may contribute up to C$10,000 to eligible local projects. New and developing cultural organisations, established organisations undertaking discrete projects, and qualifying collectives are among the intended applicants. Visual arts, film, video, media arts and other performing or cultural traditions are explicitly included. On 20 October 2026 this 2027 round has been announced but its application system and 2027 documents are not yet open. City-based organisations and arts collectives, not unrestricted world applicants The programme is reserved for arts organisations and collectives working in Winnipeg, Manitoba, whose main activity is creating, producing or presenting art. Non-incorporated artist groups can sometimes qualify under additional guidelines, but they must consult the Council's Grants Consultant to confirm their eligibility before applying. Organisations receiving other funding from the City of Winnipeg or one of its agencies are excluded. A company from outside Winnipeg cannot become eligible solely by proposing to display an online video accessible to Winnipeg residents. What kinds of projects can fit digital and media arts The Council considers a wide range of activities based on artistic merit and community impact. A local artist collective might propose a professionally curated moving-image exhibition, public film/video presentation, interactive media-arts programme or another discrete creative undertaking with identifiable local benefit. The application should explain the planned outputs, intended community, accessible venues, collaborating artists and production conditions. A regular commercial marketing campaign, private software-as-a-service project or activity that primarily benefits an unrelated overseas market would not automatically meet the stated artistic mission. C$10,000 is a maximum, not a standard grant A qualifying applicant can request partial project support up to C$10,000; actual awards depend on the funding available, assessment and the proposed budget. The project should be scheduled to take place between 1 May 2027 and 30 November 2028 for this announced cycle. Applicants should prepare a clear cost and revenue plan, distinguish confirmed from unconfirmed supporters, and keep track of media permissions, technical rentals and artists' fees. The programme does not guarantee the full project cost nor a salary to every member of a collective. Opening and submission procedure Applications are due online through the Winnipeg Arts Council's GoSmart system by 11:59pm local time on 2 February 2027. The agency advises that technical support is not available outside its staffed hours. Full required forms and 2027 supporting documentation will be available when the intake opens in November, so teams should not submit outdated 2026 PDFs and assume those documents are accepted. The Council asks collectives to speak to the Grants Consultant before applying and points applicants to its official council portal. Preparing a concise artistic concept and potential community partners ahead of 2 November is reasonable. About the public arts body and its track record The Winnipeg Arts Council has an established role supporting and recognising the city's artists, art organisations and public art projects in partnership with the City of Winnipeg. Its website publishes grant recipients, forms, programme guidelines, awards and public-art initiatives. The public criteria and municipal partnership can be independently checked. The Council acknowledges its location on Treaty 1 Territory and in the homeland of the Red River Métis, and runs professional assessment of a broad spectrum of artistic traditions. Apply through the Council's own grant system and seek advice before paying any third-party consultant. - Videotage Hong Kong Residency 2027: €5,000–€6,500 for Netherlands-Based Digital Artists, 21 October Deadline
A time-sensitive international placement reserved for Dutch-registered makers Creative Industries Fund NL (Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie) and Hong Kong's Videotage are offering a 2027 residency to an established digital-culture practitioner from the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Applications must arrive by Wednesday 21 October 2026 at 16:00 CEST, the official Dutch time zone for the deadline. That is 22:00 in Hong Kong and 23:00 in Japan on the same date. Only one qualifying maker is expected to be selected for an intensive two- or three-month research and production period in Hong Kong. Despite the international host city, this is not an unrestricted global media-art open call. Who is eligible: four years of practice and official business registration The fund is seeking an individual designer, artist, researcher or commentator working in digital culture. Applicants must be established in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, including qualifying Caribbean territories, and hold a valid registration with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce or an equivalent chamber inside the Kingdom. They need at least four years of professional experience in the creative industries. Duos, groups and consortia are excluded. People already receiving certain Dutch talent-development grants during the proposed working period are likewise restricted; applicants should read the fund's exact list of incompatible programmes. Support changes with the length of the residency A two-month approved working period carries €5,000 for the artist, whereas a three-month period carries €6,500. These are alternative grant amounts, not cumulative grants. Eligible spending may include travel, residence, artistic time, materials and research connected to the host programme. The fund also covers Videotage's facilitation, accommodation and work facilities separately. It does not promise permanent employment, unrestricted worldwide relocation assistance or two years of living expenses. The actual approved stay and any insurance or permit arrangements must be confirmed in the final award documents. The artistic theme: the unseen social life of technology The 2027 programme is centred on black-box technologies, asking practitioners to investigate systems that are influential yet difficult to see or understand. Proposals that critically engage with generative AI, algorithmic systems, interactive moving images, digital surveillance or the environmental and social consequences of computation may fit when rooted in Hong Kong's urban and cultural context. Technical experimentation alone is not sufficient; the fund judges artistic quality, the research proposal and the motivation for working specifically with Videotage. Selection, submission and practical planning The application goes through the fund's official online grant environment, accessible from the funding page. An external expert committee assesses eligible proposals in a competitive ranking, with a decision expected within eight weeks after closing. Prepare a portfolio, clear project concept, evidence of the required registration and four-year professional practice, a working-period preference, project resources and an explanation of what artistic knowledge the Hong Kong setting can offer. Given the 21 October deadline, applicants should avoid leaving account registration and uploads to the final hour. Established arts institutions and prior residency record Videotage was established in Hong Kong in 1986 as an artist-led moving-image collective and has developed longstanding media-art creation, exhibition and preservation activities. Creative Industries Fund NL is a Dutch public cultural funding institution that publishes grant rules, independently assessed selections and past supported residency projects. A previous Videotage participant, Janne Schimmel, appears in the fund's award records, and 2026 reporting describes digital artist Cyanne van den Houten's AI-infrastructure research in Hong Kong. These institutional traces make the programme verifiable. Submit only through the fund's legitimate grant portal. Official call and application https://www.stimuleringsfonds.nl/subsidies/open-oproep-videotage https://www.stimuleringsfonds.nl/projecten/cyanne-van-den-houten-onderzoekt-de-verborgen-infrastructuur-van-ai-in-hongkong
- Creative Europe MEDIA 2027 Innovative Tools: €14m EU Call for AI, Audiovisual Platforms and Digital Access
An open 2027 EU innovation call for audiovisual platforms and tools The European Commission has opened CREA-MEDIA-2027-INNOVBUSMOD, the Creative Europe MEDIA 2027 Innovative Tools and Business Models call. Applications close at 17:00 Brussels time on 14 January 2027. The 2027 envelope is €14 million in total, an amount allocated across successful projects rather than a €14 million award available to each applicant. This initiative supports industry-facing digital tools and service models that improve how European films, screen works, videogames and audiovisual productions are discovered, accessed, financed, distributed and made more sustainable. AI, subtitles, accessibility, rights and cross-platform distribution Eligible project concepts can include subtitling and accessibility services, cross-border recommendation and discoverability tools, data-analysis methods to reach new audiences, intellectual-property and rights-management solutions, and digital business models connecting festivals, cinemas and video-on-demand platforms. Creative Europe also identifies responsible uses of artificial intelligence and improvements to the environmental footprint of the audiovisual industry. The expected result is measurable benefit for European audiovisual circulation and business practice; an unrelated AI image generator or general commercial SaaS service is not sufficient by itself. Companies and organisations in MEDIA-participating countries Applicants must be legal entities established in countries qualifying for Creative Europe MEDIA, with the appropriate national ownership/control required by the call. Private creative-tech companies, nonprofits, public organisations and joint project consortia may fit if all legal and programme conditions are met. The call permits qualifying single-beneficiary applications as well as consortia. Individuals seeking a personal art stipend and non-European companies with no eligible applicant status cannot assume this programme is open to them merely because the subject is digital technology. Maximum support rate is 80%, not an automatic fixed cash prize The EU grant can reimburse up to 80% of eligible project costs under the applicable grant agreement. The programme operates on actual eligible expenses with budget-based reporting, unlike the separate game-development lump-sum programme. Official summaries do not impose one standard maximum amount per project; the €14 million is the overall 2027 competition budget. A sound proposal should commit credible own or partner financing and show cost efficiency rather than request the maximum theoretical EU share without demonstrating private or matching resources. Qualifying costs and key exclusions The application should describe the digital tool or business model, technical proof of feasibility, target European users, cross-border benefits, distribution channels, cybersecurity and accessibility, rights management, sustainability, deployment timeline and measurable industry impact. The scheme does not support the development of physical hardware such as cameras or headsets as its primary purpose. Commercial video-game production budgets are assessed under other calls and should not be moved into this innovation scheme without a genuinely suitable industry-wide technology proposal. AI transparency and intellectual-property responsibilities The MEDIA guidance gives applicants responsibility for the accuracy and rights status of all proposal material, including content prepared with generative AI. Project teams should clearly document what AI was used to draft or design the proposal and the basis for legitimate training data, third-party content and access rights where relevant. The programme seeks practical innovation; claims of proprietary tools, guaranteed licensing or environmental performance without supporting evidence may undermine an otherwise promising application. European Commission management and safe online application The European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) administers this European Commission funding line under Creative Europe. The 2027 call launched 30 September 2026, with the application period extending to January 2027; a Creative Europe Desk online information session was announced for 27 October 2026. Applicants should use EU Login, register legal entities for a PIC, download the correct 2027 INNOVBUSMOD call document, confirm participating country/ownership rules, and apply via the official Funding & Tenders Portal rather than unofficial grant brokers. - Creative Europe MEDIA 2027: Up to €200,000 for European Narrative Games and Interactive XR Development
European interactive storytellers can seek pre-production funding The European Commission opened its Creative Europe MEDIA European Video Games and Immersive Content 2027 call on 30 September 2026. Submissions are due by 2 February 2027 at 17:00 Brussels time. The call identifier is CREA-MEDIA-2027-DEVVGIM, with a total 2027 call budget of €13.5 million and a maximum grant of €200,000 per accepted project. The funding is specifically for companies developing narrative videogames or interactive immersive/XR experiences with international commercial potential, not for anyone who makes digital images or experiments with a headset. Only qualifying European production companies and eligible partners Applicants must be legally established in countries fully participating in the MEDIA strand and be majority-owned by nationals of those eligible countries, subject to the official rules. The lead entity must be a videogame developer, XR studio or audiovisual producer whose core activity fits the call; publishers are explicitly ineligible as applicant companies. A single qualified company or a qualifying multi-company consortium can apply. Overseas companies with no eligible European lead producer cannot submit directly under the assumption that the call is worldwide. Recent commercial-release experience is required For the 2027 edition, the coordinating company must demonstrate commercial distribution of at least one qualifying videogame or immersive experience between 1 January 2024 and the application deadline, rather than rely solely on educational projects or uncommercialised prototypes. The prior work should have evidence of actual market distribution and sales where requested. The applicant, or one eligible co-development partner, must hold the majority of the rights in the submitted project, including adaptation rights when using an existing work. The programme therefore differs substantially from a beginner game jam or student contest. Narrative throughout the game, not just an opening cinematic The proposed title must contain substantial original interactive storytelling during gameplay or in the immersive experience, not a standalone introductory film with otherwise unrelated gameplay. Commercial release should be envisaged for computers, consoles, mobile devices or other interactive platforms. Projects that are purely training or service work, or whose principal objective is hardware production, do not automatically qualify. The application needs to explain its core mechanics, design vision, artistic innovation, audience, market strategy and European cultural diversity. Up to €200,000 at a 60% co-financing rate The grant can cover up to 60% of eligible pre-production costs and cannot exceed €200,000 per project. The EU contribution is set as a lump sum derived from the projected eligible budget, so applicants must demonstrate credible financing for the balance rather than regard the maximum as an automatic payment. Eligible work spans the concept-development stage through delivery of the first working prototype, vertical slice, Alpha or other prescribed trial version. Subsequent production-stage testing and final release work are outside the defined development period. When work can start and how long the project may run The 2027 rules normally allow action duration of up to 36 months, subject to grant conditions. The production phase should not begin until at least ten months after the application submission, an important restriction when a studio already has a nearly completed game. Applicants should not incur project costs before the permitted starting point unless expressly allowed in the grant rules. The Commission schedules evaluation during the first half of 2027, applicant notification around July and grant signature around October 2027. Official organiser and submission safeguards Creative Europe MEDIA is the European Union's longstanding programme for European screen and digital audiovisual industries. The call is administered through the EU Funding & Tenders Portal; applicants need EU Login and their organisation's Participant Identification Code (PIC), plus detailed project and rights documents. Several official Creative Europe desks in Belgium, Spain and other participating countries publish the same identifier, criteria and call dates. Use the 2027 document, not a 2026 scheme page that may appear in search caches, and verify nationality and co-financing requirements before submitting. - Creative BC Passport to Markets 2027: Game Developers Conference Travel Support for BC Producers — December Applications
BC games and interactive-media producers can plan for GDC 2027 Creative BC has announced the 2026/27 Passport to Markets timetable for British Columbia screen and interactive-media producers. Its Game Developers Conference (GDC) market support window will open on 7 December 2026 and close on 21 December 2026, for attendance in San Francisco on 1–5 March 2027. As of 20 October 2026 this GDC-specific application round is scheduled but not yet accepting submissions. Producers can nonetheless review the guidelines and prepare meetings, travel costs and market-development objectives. The programme is for established B.C.-based industry professionals, not an unrestricted worldwide videogame competition. Who is eligible for international market assistance The programme supports qualified residents of British Columbia with an appropriate track record in producing locally owned and controlled audiovisual, interactive digital media or videogame projects. Producers or media sales agents, rather than first-time fans attending GDC, must be able to establish a business purpose such as meetings with distributors, financiers, collaborators or publishing partners. Creative BC guidelines use requirements covering provincial residence, applicant credits and rights control. Companies should confirm that their representative qualifies and is the correct lead producer before purchasing tickets. The financial support is modest and covers at most half Creative BC's published Passport to Markets contributions are capped between C$1,000 and C$2,500 depending on the conference, its location and the actual eligible costs. The grant cannot exceed 50% of final paid cash expenses for registration, airfare, accommodation and other permitted conference costs. This range is for the entire programme and does not establish a guaranteed C$2,500 GDC allowance. Tickets or flights received for free cannot be claimed as personal expenditure and applicants must retain receipts. Payment follows the event and final financial report The programme expects recipients to document outcomes, costs and their market attendance. Successful producers must file a final report and receipts within 30 business days after the market ends; Creative BC can then pay up to the approved contribution following review of costs. Producers therefore need to finance travel in advance and should not book nonrefundable trips based on an unconfirmed award. Travel insurance, visas and individual company policies remain the applicant's responsibility unless the latest guidance expressly says otherwise. Separate scheduled international markets Creative BC also lists European Film Market Berlin on 10–16 February 2027 with applications from 19 November to 2 December 2026, aimed at relevant screen producers. For GDC 2027 specifically, the application period is 7–21 December and the market is 1–5 March. The page has an old placeholder for PG Connects London and past years for other markets, so creators should use the event-specific 2027 dates rather than general year-wide 'open' labels. Market eligibility and funding caps should be confirmed for each eligible event. What to prepare as a game producer Describe your B.C. production track record, the locally owned or controlled game or interactive property, proposed GDC business objectives, confirmed or prospective meetings, project market readiness and the budget of actual cash costs. Prepare evidence of residency, previous credits, company ownership, a concise project portfolio and a realistic deal-development strategy. The programme is not designed primarily for attending paid training sessions as a consumer. Application through the Creative BC website is expected once that market's window opens. About Creative BC and applicant safety Creative BC is the British Columbia provincial economic development agency for film, music, publishing, interactive digital media and other creative industries. Its official website publishes programmes, past funding recipients, sector advice and the 2026/27 Passport to Markets guidelines. GDC is a major annual meeting for the game industry, but Creative BC does not guarantee a booth, speaking slot, publisher deal or game-release contract. Avoid third-party grant agents demanding fees to secure a place and confirm the current GDC application status on the agency's official page.
