- 30th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards 2027: Video Game Industry Submissions Close December 8
The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) has opened submissions for the 30th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards, an industry recognition programme for published games and their developers. Entries close on Tuesday, 8 December 2026 at 5:00 p.m. US Pacific Time, with the awards ceremony scheduled for Thursday 18 February 2027 in Las Vegas. The awards recognise achieved excellence in video games, including innovative independent games, game design, virtual-reality or immersive experiences and technical or artistic craft. They are not a contest where a developer can win a grant for an unfinished game proposal. Eligibility: released work and rights holders The Academy's 2027 submission materials and industry eligibility summaries focus on games with a qualifying 2026 commercial or general release in North America. Companies should examine the final official regulations to ensure that their particular platform, update, early-access version, remake or port falls inside the release window. An entrant must be the appropriate rights holder or authorised developer/publisher representative. If you are an independent developer without full Academy membership, follow the organiser's separate independent submission route, whose eligibility and fees may differ from the standard publisher process. Important schedule and event Official application closing: 8 December 2026 at 5 p.m. US Pacific Time; for this date, Pacific Standard Time is UTC−8. Japan time equivalent: 9 December 2026 at 10 a.m. JST. The ceremony for the 30th edition will take place on 18 February 2027, Las Vegas, Nevada. A submitted game is not automatically nominated or guaranteed public display. Check the specific award category and release criteria in the 30th edition's Rules and Procedures before uploading files. Cost and game-specific submission requirements The 2027 announcement itself does not publish a single universal fee amount. The organiser has separate standard and independent-developer submission documentation, so do not assume the entry is free or identical for every business. The application system and binding rules control actual charges, submission permissions, and any discount or membership arrangements. An entrant should prepare a playable build or access code, clear release dates and platform evidence, publisher/developer credits, promotional imagery, representative gameplay footage and the required evaluation materials, subject to the fields on the current submission form. What the awards actually offer D.I.C.E. is an industry honour awarded by peers through the Academy, not a cash-prize promise, game-development investment, festival booth grant or incubator placement. A successful nominee can receive profile and commercial credibility among developers, publishers, artists and press; there is no guarantee of a particular dollar amount of prize money. The official 2027 cycle introduces ranked-choice voting, asking Academy members to rank the nominated works in each category, an important procedural change for this thirtieth edition. Organiser credibility and historical context AIAS is a recognised professional association in interactive entertainment with more than 30,000 development and creative members. It operates the longstanding annual D.I.C.E. Awards and its convention in Las Vegas, recording previous years' nominees and honourees. The awards site features independently verifiable entry instructions, membership rules, category definitions and academy contact details. Its 2027 news release also announces the dates and major voting reform, so prospective applicants should verify the page before seeking advice from third-party award brokers. - EMAF 2027 Experimental FILM Open Call: Free Worldwide Entry, 2,200-Submission Early Cap
European Media Art Festival (EMAF) in Osnabrück, Germany, has opened the FILM section of its fortieth edition for worldwide experimental cinema and video-based artistic filmmaking. The cinema festival takes place 21–25 April 2027; EMAF's associated exhibition runs through 23 May. The call has an exceptional time-sensitive rule: submissions close EITHER upon reaching 2,200 eligible entries OR on 15 December 2026, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST. The festival explicitly says submission is free. This article concerns the film-screening programme rather than EMAF's separate Installation and Expanded open calls, which have different work-format and thematic requirements. What type of cinema can be submitted? Experimental and artist-made films from filmmakers of any nationality. No universal minimum or maximum duration; any length and subject is eligible within the film section. Work completed in 2026 or later. Earlier finished work does not qualify for this edition. No premiere condition: films previously screened elsewhere may be entered. Short and medium-length works are considered for International Selection, while longer features are evaluated for the Features programme. A complete film and viewable screener are needed; the call does not fund unfinished script development. 2,200 entries could mean a deadline long before December The 2027 open call introduces an upper limit on total festival entries for the first time, because record submission volume made it harder to give each piece sufficient curatorial attention. Even though the nominal last date is 15 December 2026, filmmakers must submit as early as possible: a counter reaching 2,200 can close the portal without warning before that date. At the time of publication the first-party announcement confirms the cap, but the final number of entries already received is not established in this article. Do not rely on a later extension. Filmchief submission checklist Create a profile on the EMAF Filmchief platform and choose the FILM form, not Installation or Expanded. Enter original, English or German film title; production country, completion month/year, runtime, presentation format, dialogue and subtitle languages. Provide a short EN or DE synopsis within 700 characters. Provide a direct screener preview URL and password if access is restricted; a trailer link is optional. Upload up to three 300-dpi publicity still images, JPEG/PNG, no more than 5MB each, with photographer credits in file names. The form also accepts an optional PDF press kit up to 5MB. Add director, artist, production-company, producer, screenplay, music, sound design and distribution credits as relevant. Rights, prizes and financial limits Free submission does not automatically mean free cinema production, travel or insurance. The public 2027 film summary does not guarantee an individual cash award, screening license payment, return travel or hotel coverage to every selected filmmaker. Such terms must be confirmed with EMAF when an invitation is issued. Applicants should have cleared music synchronization, performers' releases, archive footage and film stills. In particular, the festival's film section is open to any topic, whereas the Installation programme has its own 2027 curatorial theme dealing with archives and alternative futures. Festival history and programme significance EMAF is a longstanding German experimental film and media arts festival now reaching its 40th edition, with a history of screening emerging moving-image practices and cross-disciplinary installations. It operates a recognised film festival selection as well as an extended exhibition and talks programme. Its own website and Filmchief application detail actual international screening sections, published dates, submission limits and contact points. This is a substantive chance to reach an experimental cinema audience, not a typical fee-based pay-to-win online certificate competition. - FOTODOKS Munich 2027: Free International Documentary Photography Call, Up to €1,200 Artist Fee
FOTODOKS, the international festival of contemporary documentary photography in Munich, has opened its 2027 call for documentary and lens-based artistic projects. The theme of the thirteenth edition is 'Care', considering how social, ecological, political and intimate forms of caring shape personal and collective life. Submissions opened on 19 October 2026 and close on 20 November 2026. Entry is FREE. The festival welcomes professional photographic artists of any nationality and artists' collectives, not only those based in Germany. Selected exhibitors receive an artist fee, artwork production and capped travel support, rather than merely exposure. What kinds of photographic projects fit Care? The curatorial theme examines support networks, unpaid emotional labour, disability and welfare, climate resilience, family histories, healthcare systems, ecology, migrant belonging and the politics of care. The focus is on existing lens-based documentary work with an honest and research-informed engagement with its subject. FOTODOKS welcomes creative documentary aesthetics and critical artistic methods, not only mainstream photojournalism. A purely digital image created without an underlying lens-based project may not meet its current eligibility criterion. Who may submit and when? Open to professional lens-based artists and photographers worldwide, solo or in groups and collectives. Languages accepted for the application: English and German. Start date: 19 October 2026; closing date: 20 November 2026. FOTODOKS expects to announce selected artists around March 2027; the festival exhibition is planned in Munich for October 2027. No application fee and no up-front nomination fee. Submit through the official Picter-linked FOTODOKS application. The submission must demonstrate a current, developed body of documentary photographic work rather than a purely AI-synthesised series. Artist remuneration and travel limits Selected individual: €500 exhibition artist fee. Selected duo: €800 per duo. Selected collective: up to €1,200, depending on the number of participating artists. Travel reimbursement limit for travel within Germany: €150. For other European journeys: up to €300. For travel from outside Europe: up to €500. Accommodation during the festival's four-day opening week and production of the exhibition are also included under organiser arrangements. Selected artists receive five printed exhibition catalogues; acceptance does not mean fully funded flights beyond the caps. An unusual AI rule: partial AI allowed only with transparency The 2027 FOTODOKS terms allow submissions that are partly assisted by artificial intelligence if the work remains demonstrably lens-based and the applicant explicitly identifies the particular AI engine and process in BOTH the overall project description and each relevant individual image description. Images that are 100% AI-generated and autonomous-AI-agent-produced works are expressly excluded. This is a different rule from other international illustration competitions banning ANY generative AI use. Photographers must not casually transfer rules from one contest to another. Copyright, portrait consent and archive licensing Artists retain ownership of their photographs, while granting the festival time- and purpose-limited nonexclusive exhibition, catalogue and promotional usage rights. A separate clause permits an unlimited time and geographical nonexclusive licence for a MUTUALLY AGREED set of photographs in the online photographer archive. Before agreeing, participants should identify which images would be archived indefinitely and obtain consent from any identifiable people pictured. The 2027 conditions also require high-resolution source images and allow the organiser to publish artists' biographies. About the organiser and contact FOTODOKS is an established Munich festival with thirteen editions of documentary-photography programming, curatorial group exhibitions, talks and a printed catalogue. It publicly identifies a curatorial team and holds its call through Picter, an established artist-submission platform. - C-IDEA Design Award 2027: AI, Interaction, Animation and Game Design — All Fee Stages
C-IDEA Design Award is accepting international work for its 2027 edition from 25 September 2026 through 31 January 2027. Its broad design disciplines include film and animation, game design, interactive installations, UI/UX, product, architecture and visual communication. Applicants can enter either the open Free Theme or 'Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Future', a theme addressing responsible use of machine intelligence in healthcare, sustainable design, public service and social experience. C-IDEA operates a TWO-PHASE FEE STRUCTURE; early-bird registration is cheaper but shortlisted professional and company entries incur a further nomination charge. This is an award and design publicity opportunity, not a guarantee of grant money. Who can compete? Professional designers, studios, companies, design schools, teachers and design institutions from around the world. Student applicants must be under 26, and may be junior college, undergraduate or graduate students. Both new concepts and publicly launched design products may apply when entrants own the underlying work and can document authorship. Animation, video, game design, intelligent interactive systems, UI/UX, visual communication, architecture and other categories are each explicitly listed. The AI in Future theme invites uses in service, green, medical and social design; the Free Theme accepts design subjects without a specific AI connection. Fees: Stage 1, early-bird until 30 November 2026 Professional designer or company: €35 per submitted design in the early period ending 30 November. Student: the FIRST participation entry is free, with any additional submission €10 during early-bird registration. Regular period from 1 December to 31 January: professional/company €50 per design; student's first entry remains free, additional entries €15 each. Register and pay in the organiser's stated system; the current official page also provides an email backup submission method with a specific entry form. Fees: Stage 2, if shortlisted Student: first nominated entry free; other nominated student work €50 each. Professional individual: €150 nomination fee per selected design. Company: €300 nomination fee per selected design. The nomination charge is additional to the first-stage participation fee and must be paid to proceed to the final jury. Example: one professional early entry reaching the final costs €35 plus €150, totalling €185. A company submitting late and shortlisted would pay €50 plus €300 = €350, before shipping or other extras. File requirements and design judgement A current work image should be A4 at 150dpi, RGB JPEG and at most 5 MB, with a project description of at most 150 words. Video or animation submissions can provide a link or sample file below 30 MB; interactive work may include a working preview URL. Submitted work and registration fields cannot be revised once finalised, so check credits and team members in advance. C-IDEA's judges assess originality, quality and the appropriateness of each design category. The programme announces nomination results in February 2027 and winners in March. Awards, merchandise and shipment risks Benefits announced by C-IDEA include a winner certificate, award logo, possible yearbook inclusion, an awards-event admission ticket and media opportunities. Some trophy items can be purchased separately, while specific high awards receive a complimentary trophy. The first-party page does not promise an unconditional cash prize. Artists opting to ship a physical finalist work must pay forwarding, return shipping and insurance; unclaimed physical work may be disposed of under the detailed rules. Retain ownership documentation and confirm any reproduction license before uploading. Organiser and authenticity The C-IDEA International Design Education Association operates this international design award and provides category-specific instructions, payments, staff contact locations, downloadable 2027 rules and award archives. The page identifies contacts in Adelaide, Taiwan and Beijing and publishes financial terms directly. Use the official event page and domain before making payments rather than trusting unsolicited prize messages. - SIXI Artist Residency 2027 in Nanjing: Funded Three-Month Spring and Autumn Calls
Sixi Museum, a contemporary art institution in Nanjing, China, is inviting international artists to apply for its 2027 SIXI Artist-in-Residence (AiR) programme. Four artists are to be selected for three-month residencies during two sessions: spring from March to May 2027 and autumn from September to November 2027. The advertised application deadline is 15 November 2026. The programme accepts a range of visual, lens-based, sound, writing and cross-disciplinary practices, but asks applicants to address one of two distinctive research themes, rather than propose generic studio production. Two research themes with different approaches Flux and Imprints: Contemporary Echoes of Migration History. Proposals may examine migration memories, overseas Chinese family stories, identity in global politics, colonial histories, archival materials and personal oral histories. Folds of Text: Cross-Media Intertextuality and Intervention. The organiser invites links among writing, linguistics, image-making, sound and music, with text treated as a flexible cultural medium beyond printed words. Film, experimental photography, video, installation, sound and digital media practitioners can be relevant when their proposals connect meaningfully with these subjects. Residency and support, including limitations Sixi Museum describes a city-centre apartment, a loft studio in an outlying part of Nanjing, basic work facilities, technician and staff help, connections with local artists and the opportunity to show resulting work in an exhibition. It says living and production assistance and some financial support are available; independent opportunity notices describe possible round-trip travel, visa-related and insurance support. However, the first-party overview does not publish a universal fixed cash stipend, so do not assume a salary or a particular reimbursement before reviewing the individual award letter. Clarify material production budgets, visa invitation, insurance coverage and whether any works produced during the residency are expected to be donated to the museum. Application essentials Deadline: 15 November 2026; verify the precise time and electronic submission method with the organiser. Two programme windows: March–May or September–November 2027, approximately three months each. Four artists are being recruited across the announced sessions, not four for every discipline. Prepare a professional artist biography and CV, recent portfolio, project proposal explaining theme and research steps, preferred session, needs and availability. Applications and direct enquiries are handled through the organiser; contact info@siximuseum.com and refer to the official 2027 open-call instructions. For international applicants, allow additional time for Chinese visa processing, travel and any exhibition-related rights agreements. A real institution with prior artist residencies Sixi Museum identifies itself as a nonprofit institution engaged in collection, exhibitions, research and public education. Its AiR scheme began in 2024 and maintains an online archive of actual work by former residents, including Malaysian artist Win Yi Ng and Italian artist Maria Positano in spring 2026, as well as Oscar Lebeck, Zayn Qahtani and others from earlier sessions. Their interviews and short studio films provide a concrete way of checking what the programme has delivered in Nanjing. Artistic rights and expectations Applicants should confirm ownership and reproduction rights for source imagery, video, participant interviews and datasets. A residency invitation can involve separate licensing of installation documentation, exhibition images or permanent collections; do not infer that the artist must surrender all copyright merely because an exhibition is offered. Ask for any obligation to donate a work and reimbursement of specialised production materials in writing before agreeing. Official application sources SIXI AiR official 2027 spring/autumn announcement: https://siximuseum.com/en/news/8/ Sixi Museum artist-in-residence programme and alumni: https://siximuseum.com/en/residency/ Checked 24 October 2026. - PAGES Artists' Book Fair 2027 Leeds: Apply by 14 December, Table Fees £90–£200
PAGES Leeds is inviting exhibitors to the 25th PAGES Artists' Book Fair, a two-day gathering for artist-made books, zines, experimental publishing, fine press and paper-based visual art. The 2027 fair is scheduled for Friday 19 and Saturday 20 March at Leeds Art Gallery and Leeds Central Library in England. Applications close Monday 14 December 2026 at 23:59 UK local time, according to the current CuratorSpace announcement and its FAQs. This is a trade and exhibition opportunity rather than a cash-prize contest: selected exhibitors PAY for their table and may sell their publications or meet professional and public audiences. Who should apply and what kind of work? The organiser welcomes individual book artists, collectives, independent imprints, small and fine-press publishers, bookbinders, designers and suppliers of paper or bookmaking equipment. The programme is focused on artist's books as an artistic medium, not only conventional commercial fiction books. Experimental page structure, screenprints, risographs, photo books, hand-binding, book sculpture, visual-poetry publications and digital-to-print art editions can all be relevant if the final work fits the concept of an artist-produced publication. International applicants should consider transport, shipping, customs and staffing costs before applying. How to submit a table proposal Deadline: Monday 14 December 2026, 23:59 local UK time. Apply using the organiser's CuratorSpace 'Make a Submission' form; a general email is not the same as a completed registration. Provide current details of the artist, imprint, collective or educational organisation and the type of books or publications on offer. Upload up to five colour images of recent work. Avoid recycling a former year's submitted images if the organiser asks for current material. Tables are limited; the PAGES team will select a balanced mix of contemporary artist-book practices. Applicants are scheduled to learn the selection decision by Friday 8 January 2027; only successful applicants will then be asked to pay the table cost. Actual table fees (not artistic grants) Individual artists, imprints and collectives: £90 for the two-day table. Colleges and universities: £150 per table. Trade stalls and suppliers: £200 per table. Approximate table dimensions: 180 by 75 centimetres. A joint application with a second exhibitor may let two makers share one table; division of costs is the participants' responsibility. The listed fees are table-rental costs after selection, not prizes paid to accepted exhibitors. Public opening hours and practical considerations The published schedule gives Friday 19 March 2027 from 11:00 to 17:00 and Saturday 20 March from 10:30 to 16:00. Exhibitors should plan to be present through opening hours and arrange any display stands, storage, price labels, card payment and stock tracking. If coming from abroad, check visa and business-sale requirements as well as UK customs rules before sending a large consignment. The public announcement does not promise paid flights, hotels or a grant to compensate for the table fee. Important old-year typos in the current announcement The PAGES 2027 notice contains inherited copy in two paragraphs referring to a 2024 submission deadline and a PAGES 2025 publication. Its 2027 title, opening section and detailed FAQ explicitly agree on 14 December 2026, and the Friday 8 January 2027 selection-notice date is consistent with this cycle. Readers should rely on the current 2027 FAQ and the application form, and request clarification from the organiser if any year in the platform differs. History and what exhibitors gain The 25th PAGES Artists' Book Fair is organised by PAGES Leeds, a specialist programme concerned with artists' books and critical engagement with publication as an artform. It is held at established public cultural venues, Leeds Art Gallery and Central Library, and produces a catalogue representing participating artists and presses. This record gives a transparent basis for checking the event rather than responding to unverified offers of guaranteed sales. Official organiser's entry and conditions PAGES 2027 exhibitor call and submission form on CuratorSpace: https://www.curatorspace.com/opportunities/detail/pages-artists-book-fair/11203 Checked 24 October 2026. - PrintAustin The Contemporary Print 2027: International Printmaking Entries Due 31 October
PrintAustin Collective invites artists of all nationalities aged 18 or over to The Contemporary Print 2027, its fourteenth juried international exhibition of original printmaking at The Art Galleries at Austin Community College, Texas. The application deadline is 31 October 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time according to the organiser's official CaFÉ entry listing. This is an opportunity for traditional and experimental print-based visual art, with digital methods permitted as secondary components. Purely photographic prints or completely digital prints are explicitly excluded. The ordinary application fee is US$35 for three entered works, and the Best in Show prize is $500. Which techniques are eligible? Printmaking must be the dominant technique: lithography, relief printing, intaglio, screenprint, photopolymer printing, monotypes and related traditions. Two-dimensional and three-dimensional print-based works may be entered, including sculpture, ceramics, mixed media and artists' books with a genuine printmaking component. Digital file output may form part of an otherwise print-made project, but a standalone digital image print or photograph is not eligible. Maximum dimension 72 inches or approximately 183 centimetres, except for installation-format exceptions. Artists of any nationality aged 18+; works previously shown in The Contemporary Print are not eligible. Artists admitted to the 2025 exhibition are specifically excluded in the current 2027 eligibility terms. Exact fees and submission Ordinary non-member entry: $35 for the first three works. PrintAustin members: $10 for three works, with membership confirmed using the same registered name. Each additional image or work beyond the included three: $10; the submission form permits a maximum of six visual assets. A limited number of hardship waivers can be requested from info@printaustin.org before applying. Applications are filed via the official CaFÉ artist portal rather than by sending an email or paying a broker. Deadline: 31 October 2026, 23:59 Mountain Time; apply early if submitting from another time zone. Jury, exhibition and the award The 2027 juror is Lauren Rosenblum, Jensen Bryan Curator at The Print Center, a museum-like organisation specialising in works on paper. The award for Best in Show is $500 and an interview with the Hello, Print Friend podcast. Selected art will be exhibited at Austin Community College in early 2027. The exhibition dates vary between currently distributed organiser and portal descriptions; plan generally for January–March and check final shipping instructions before making a booking. The artist selection process is a blind jury. Delivery, sales and copyright The organiser expects exhibition-ready original works, shipped or delivered according to the accepted-artist notice. The entry listing says acceptance notices will be sent around 20 November 2026 and artworks due by 9 January 2027. Accepted works may be sold: artists receive 70% of the sale price while PrintAustin retains 30% as a commission. The programme reserves a limited licence to reproduce artist statements, images and biographies in exhibition catalogues and publicity; artists should check other commitments before submitting exclusive works. Shipping, insurance and framing arrangements can be financially significant for foreign participants, so discuss these early. Organisation and rights of applicants PrintAustin Collective is an artist-led non-profit arts organisation in Texas that stages a continuing festival of printmaking, exhibitions and professional events. The annual Contemporary Print exhibition is organised with The Art Galleries at Austin Community College, providing an identifiable public campus venue and past printmaking artists. The nonprofit publishes fee waivers and entry conditions openly, including the requirement for a traditional print process. That is more reliable than a generic social-media ad implying that digital illustration alone qualifies. - Staple + Stitch Chicago Art Book & Print Fair 2027: Exhibitor Applications to 30 November
Staple + Stitch, Chicago's annual art-book and print fair, is accepting exhibitor applications for its 2027 edition, taking place on 6 and 7 March at the Chicago Athletic Association. The fair connects book artists, independent print publishers, zine makers, experimental graphic designers, printmakers and publishers with readers and collectors. Applications opened on 1 October and close on 30 November 2026. The organiser plans more than 75 participating vendors. Public admission is free for visitors, but exhibitors who are selected must pay for a table: US$250 for a full table or $125 for a half table. These should not be confused. Who and what belongs at the fair? The festival emphasises the intersection of art, text, print and paper. Suitable creative practices include small-batch artist books, risograph publishing, independent comics, original zines, handmade bindings, artist-led periodicals, printed illustration and editions that translate digital visual art into tangible objects. It is primarily an exhibitor sales and exchange fair, not a competition for cash art prizes. An international artist who plans to exhibit should consider immigration/travel and transport conditions carefully, since the public programme does not advertise a universal travel stipend. Deadline, fair dates and payment Exhibitor application period: 1 October–30 November 2026. Fair dates: Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 March 2027. Venue: Chicago Athletic Association in Chicago, Illinois, USA. Full table price: US$250. Half table: US$125. Accepted vendor fees are due on 15 January 2027. Public entry for visitors is free; that does NOT waive the vendor's table charge. Lodging information and any room-block options are listed as forthcoming, not guaranteed free accommodation. Preparing a useful submission Compile photographs of representative books, editions and tables, a concise publisher or maker biography, a clear description of the print processes and a list of the works to sell. The official 2027 homepage advertises the application period but has no universal fixed jury criterion in its introductory text; consult the actual linked exhibitor form for required image counts, stock types and eligibility before uploading. For a small overseas print collective, a shared half-table may be more economical than a larger stand, but only if the organiser's form permits the intended display and attendance arrangement. Exhibitor costs and revenue uncertainty Budget for payment processing, local tax requirements, inventory printing and shipping, packaging, display hardware and the two-day staffing. The US$125 or $250 table rental is not a refundable security deposit or a prize. The festival makes no guaranteed sales claims, and it does not promise that an accepted vendor's room, flights or foreign customs fees will be reimbursed. Before confirming, request the final venue rules, cancellation conditions and load-in schedule from the organiser. Organiser background Staple + Stitch began in 2024 and publishes previous fair archives. The 2027 edition is supported by fiscal sponsorship from Hive Center for the Book Arts, a book and paper arts organisation that assists its non-profit development. The venue and current exhibitor dates are published through the fair's own official website, which is the proper entry point for prospective vendors. This early-stage history is documented, but it is not comparable in age to a century-old public museum. Official submission Staple + Stitch official 2027 exhibitor application, prices and schedule: https://stapleandstitchfair.org/ Verified 24 October 2026. Applications close 30 November. Fees due 15 January after selection; all prices USD. This is paid exhibition space, not a funded artist residency. - FilmEU ARE 2027 OFF GRID: International Media Art, VR and Film Research Open Call
FilmEU's Artistic Research Exhibition (ARE) has opened a new international call for the 2027 edition, titled OFF GRID. The exhibition will take place in Nová tržnica (New Market Hall), Bratislava, Slovakia, from 20 April to 5 May 2027, with an online presentation extending through 2027. Digital artists, filmmakers, visual researchers, animators and experimental moving-image practitioners from Europe and beyond may apply by 13 December 2026. The WIRE by FilmEU agenda specifies 23:59 Western European Time for the deadline; leave a buffer for international uploads. FilmEU consists of eight European higher education institutions, with Bratislava's Academy of Performing Arts (VŠMU) hosting the exhibition. Theme: OFF GRID, privacy and digital disconnection OFF GRID examines the social, ecological and psychological meaning of stepping outside systems that track, connect or categorise people. The call is interested in surveillance, artificial intelligence and the ability to disappear; voluntary disconnection, enforced exclusion and isolation; the commodification of privacy; and the relationships between online networks and loneliness. The concept is broad enough to accommodate critical documentary, generative or interactive artwork, but entrants should articulate their work as artistic research rather than simply attaching a fashionable technology label. Who may apply? Not limited to FilmEU students Any artist whose practice involves or is informed by artistic research may apply. A higher-education affiliation or postgraduate research track is preferred, but expressly NOT mandatory. Applicants outside the WIRE by FilmEU alliance are welcome, though some exhibition positions are reserved for FilmEU internal research. Proposals may be submitted by individual artists or collaborative research teams with appropriate authority to present all included media. Eligible work and installation formats Research-driven film, documentary, experimental moving images and animation. Media artworks, software-based or digital installations, single/multiple-screen projects, virtual reality and interactive audiovisual research. Finished works or, exceptionally, works in progress that can be fully completed by the exhibition. Work must be no more than two years old; check completion dates and portfolio history carefully. Include a practical installation proposal describing required screens, VR headsets, network access, equipment, dimensions and technical support. Submission materials and dates Deadline: 13 December 2026, with the FilmEU event calendar listing 23:59 WET. Applicant CV. Abstract of the work's research question, process and contribution, no longer than 400 words. A viewable preview link so the selection committee can inspect the actual work. Technical description, no longer than 120 words, with diagrams or sketches if necessary. Acceptance notifications expected in January 2027; public exhibition 20 April–5 May 2027 and online during 2027. Financial support: capped reimbursement, not a cash prize FilmEU states that participants attending in person can be reimbursed for travel and accommodation costs up to €300 PER PROJECT. This is not an automatic €300 award for every exhibitor and may not cover a costly international flight. The announcement does not state a confirmed submission fee, guaranteed honorarium, shipping grant or production budget; verify any such terms with the organisers before paying a third party or booking travel. Exhibition equipment may be adjusted to match venue limits, so selected artists should negotiate technical details before committing expensive rentals. Who organises ARE and how to verify it ARE is a recurring exhibition of artistic research within WIRE by FilmEU, supported by eight European higher-education institutions. The 2027 edition is the fourth and is coordinated with an international curatorial committee from VŠMU in Slovakia and partners in Estonia, Bulgaria, Portugal, Lithuania, Belgium, Ireland and Denmark. Its programme sits alongside the SAR Conference and WIRE summit, giving entrants identifiable organisers, institutional websites and a publicly stated exhibition location. - IRISH FILM FESTA 2027: Free Short Film and Animation Competition in Rome, Irish Team Required
IRISH FILM FESTA, the long-running showcase of Irish cinema held in Rome, Italy, has opened its 2027 short-film competition. It accepts live-action fiction, creative documentaries and animation of any technique, provided the full work is less than 30 minutes and an Irish producer, director or writer is part of the film's creative team. Entries are free and close on 15 December 2026, exclusively through FilmFreeway. The selected films will be screened at Casa del Cinema in Rome during the festival's April 2027 edition. This is an international submission process but NOT an open competition for every filmmaker worldwide irrespective of ties to Ireland. Who is eligible? The Irish-team criterion matters Any short film below 30 minutes, including animation, fiction and documentary. At least one of the film's producer, director or writer must be Irish. Directors or writers of another nationality can participate with a qualifying Irish creative-team member. The production must be a completed viewable short film, not a script, screenplay pitch or production proposal. Submissions through FilmFreeway only; the official call expressly says no submission fee. The festival does not run a formal competitive call for full-length feature films. A private feature screener may be sent separately for possible programme consideration, not competition entry. Application dates The festival officially opened entries on 19 October 2026, with a deadline of 15 December. FilmFreeway currently shows a notification date of 15 February 2027, and a provisional screening window of 7–11 April 2027. The organiser's own recent article states only 'April 2027', so treat exact event days as subject to the final calendar rather than a confirmed travel booking date. What selected filmmakers must deliver A high-definition copy of the accepted film in MP4 or MKV format. A timecoded dialogue transcript/list in SRT format, supplied within a week of selection notification. A short synopsis and complete cast and crew credit list. One or more high-resolution stills and promotional clips for the festival catalogue, press, website and social channels. The organisers warn that failure to supply the required SRT file makes a selected film ineligible. Language and subtitles English subtitles are not required at the initial FilmFreeway entry stage. Programmers nevertheless suggest adding them when dialogue has strong regional accents or idiomatic expressions, so non-Irish selectors can assess the work. After selection, the precise timed SRT transcript is mandatory irrespective of whether the initial screener carried subtitles. Plan to transcribe complex dialogue accurately, and verify ownership/clearance of recorded music and imagery before permitting public screenings. Who organises the event? IRISH FILM FESTA was founded in 2007 to promote Irish film and culture in Italy, and FilmFreeway lists nineteen years of programming history. It operates at Casa del Cinema and presents contemporary features, classics, Q&A events with film professionals and a distinct short-film competition. The official organiser and FilmFreeway pages state consistent 2026 submission conditions. Finalists benefit from an identifiable public cinema screening, but the organiser does not promise universal airfare, accommodation, a screening fee or a particular cash award to every entrant.
