Opportunity and organizer

AI Filmfest is a new international showcase for AI-assisted filmmaking with online audience participation and a physical awards event planned for 16–18 April 2027 at Polo Digital in Málaga, Spain. Its founder Aaron Koenig previously ran Bitfilm, a digital-cinema festival that explored internet screenings, computer-generated movies and online voting. The event emphasizes compelling films rather than the use of AI effects alone.

Eligibility and what to submit

Film submissions are open from 1 October to 1 December 2026. Eligible areas include AI-created fiction, documentary and experimental films of up to 120 minutes and AI-generated music videos of up to six minutes. Entrants should verify they have the necessary rights to music, film materials, character likenesses and all other incorporated components and be able to provide working screeners.

Deadlines and costs

Crucially, there are two different entry pathways. The organizer's official website states that submitting through its partner IndeeHub is free, including account registration. Its FilmFreeway listing instead charges €21 per category at the standard rate, €11 for students or €16 for Gold members. The paid FilmFreeway route is therefore not a compulsory admission charge; compare the terms of each pathway before submitting.

Evaluation and potential benefits

After committee preselection, films will be available for online viewing and audience ratings during March–April 2027. Eligible viewers who watch at least 30% can score films from one to ten stars, with a Bayesian-average ranking. Optional Bitcoin Lightning tips are used to fund a variable prize pool, so no fixed cash prize should be assumed. Selected films are planned for online and Málaga screenings.

Application steps and important conditions

Visit the organizer's official website to follow its free IndeeHub submission method, and read FilmFreeway only if choosing that separate paid route. Confirm the most recent rules on eligible AI content, intellectual property, public screenings, audience voting and the optional prize pool. Neither selection nor compensation is automatic.
