Bronx Museum AIM Fellowship 2027: Free Professional Development for NYC Artists, Apply by October 25
The Bronx Museum in New York City is accepting applications for its 2027 AIM Fellowship until Sunday, October 25, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. US Eastern Time. The 47th cycle of this long-running professional-development program selects 14 emerging artists based in New York City for a nine-month career accelerator. Applications are free through the museum's own Submittable page. Artists working in photography, video, digital processes, installation and other contemporary art forms can examine the program, but applicants who are not NYC-based must not confuse it with an open international residency.
What the nine-month fellowship actually provides
The AIM Fellowship centers on a structured practicum led by professionals in finance, arts law, media management, writing and other career skills for sustaining an artistic practice. Fellows meet on Tuesday evenings, 6–9 p.m., at The Bronx Museum. Classes run February–June 2027 and September–December 2027 with a July–August break. This is valuable sustained mentoring rather than a promise of a salary, individual cash grant, free artist studio or relocation package.
Attendance and geographic eligibility
The museum explicitly describes its target group as rising artists based in New York City. Selection is competitive and consistent local attendance is essential because the meetings take place in person at the Grand Concourse venue. Applicants living elsewhere in the US or internationally should not assume they can complete AIM online or gain eligibility by making a short visit to New York. Any additional official requirements, such as particular development stage or portfolio format, should be checked in the live application form.
What artists should prepare
Before using the Submittable link, collect a concise CV, current portfolio documentation and a clear account of the professional questions for which structured guidance would be valuable. An artist working with time-based media should provide stable playable video links and ensure that shared work has proper display permissions. Since the closing time is October 25 Eastern Time, artists in Japan or Europe must convert the hour instead of assuming the deadline expires on their own local October 25.
The museum and its artist development history
Formerly known as the Artist in Marketplace program, AIM was founded in 1980 and is a flagship professional incubator of The Bronx Museum. In addition to its teaching sessions, it concludes with an AIM Convening organized by outgoing fellows to share what they have learned with the wider creative community. The museum operates at 1040 Grand Concourse and maintains public information about AIM alumni, professional partnerships and previous programs. The application link is available directly from the museum website.
Deadline October 25, 2026, 11:59 p.m. ET. No application fee. Only NYC-based emerging artists; fourteen places and in-person Tuesday sessions.
