Fotografiska Tallinn Community Gallery 2027: Open International Photography Call, August 19 Deadline

Fotografiska Tallinn, the Estonian branch of the international photography museum, is inviting local and international photographers to apply for its Community Gallery. The 2027 call welcomes professional artists, emerging photographers and photography enthusiasts with projects that can generate conversation about contemporary life. Applications remain open throughout the year, with August 19, 2027 as the deadline for the next available exhibition opportunity in late 2027. This is a museum exhibition call, not a cash-award photography contest.

What kind of photographic project fits?

Fotografiska describes the gallery as a space for images that engage with our time, raise timely or socially relevant questions, offer unusual perspectives or open a dialogue with the museum's wider exhibitions. A project could address the city, environment, community, memory, personal identity or changing visual culture. New work and previously exhibited projects are both accepted. The stated criteria do not limit applications to Estonian residents, so photographers from other countries may apply.

Submission: one PDF with 10–15 photos

The original invitation asks applicants to email a single complete PDF containing 10–15 photographs, a short description of the proposed project and a concise artist biography. Send it to opencall.tallinn@fotografiska.com. A collection of loose image attachments or a bare social-media profile does not meet this specified submission format. Before emailing, compress the PDF sensibly without ruining image quality, identify the series and give enough contextual information for curators to understand its purpose.

Costs: exhibition support does not equal a production grant

Selected artists receive exhibition space on Fotografiska Tallinn's first floor and support through its communications, marketing and public programmes. However, the organizer explicitly states that producing exhibition prints and physical works remains the responsibility of the artist. The museum may recommend production partners, but it does not promise to pay all printing, shipping, framing or travel expenses. The call does not announce a universal participation fee or a fixed artist stipend, so applicants should clarify individual conditions before committing resources.

Timing and curatorial communications

The organizer says the Community Gallery submission route remains open year-round, while the next available exhibition slot is expected in late 2027. Applications for that round are due August 19, World Photography Day. Applicants are warned that they might not receive any response until after the deadline, so silence does not necessarily mean the proposal was rejected. Do not assume an exact opening date or guaranteed gallery booking until the museum confirms it in writing.

About Fotografiska Tallinn

Fotografiska Tallinn is a photography and visual-culture venue presenting contemporary exhibitions, artist talks and public activities. The Community Gallery occupies a visible and accessible part of its ground-floor programme, extending the museum's platform to emerging voices and community stories. A previously shown photographic series can still be considered, which makes this opportunity suitable for photographers with an already developed body of work.
