The Glasgow Short Film Festival (GSFF) is receiving final entries for its 2027 festival, scheduled for March 17–21, 2027 in Scotland. Its late submission deadline is October 27, 2026, making this an urgent opportunity for directors and producers with a completed eligible short film. The competition includes an international programme as well as a separate Scottish competition. The two divisions have different regional rules, so entering the Scottish competition is not simply a second route available to any international film.

International competition versus Scottish films

The International Bill Douglas Award is a major competition for short films from around the world. The Scottish Short Film Award has a separate production connection requirement: the current submission instructions expect at least two of the key creative roles—director, writer and producer—to be resident in Scotland. An artist with a Scottish location or Scottish-themed film but a wholly non-Scottish production team should not presume the Scottish section is open to them.

Running time and completion date

The organizer's current eligibility rules cover films with a maximum running time of 40 minutes and a completion date after September 30, 2025. Films previously submitted to GSFF are ineligible for resubmission under the ordinary competition rules. Work-in-progress versions may be considered under the festival's instructions, subject to obtaining a finished screening copy by the required date. Review any specific requirements affecting prior festival screenings, online public availability or distribution rights.

Late application prices and platforms

The deadline in force on October 26 is October 27, 2026. The late fee is GBP £18 when submitting directly to the festival or USD $25 via FilmFreeway, according to the organizer. Early-bird or standard-rate windows have already ended, so those older prices should not be advertised as still available. Do not assume a refund is available if the film is not selected. The application platform, fee and precise closing hour should be verified immediately on the active submission page.

Preparing subtitles, screening rights and review material

Submit a secure, working online screener with the title, production date, accurate duration and correct credit details. For non-English dialogue, the festival may require English subtitles or dialogue lists according to its rules. Before submitting, secure permissions for music, archive clips, performers and all other protected material. Review whether the festival's terms allow press previews, trailers, online screenings or promotional stills, and make sure producers agree to those forms of use.

GSFF history and festival programme

GSFF is an independent Scottish short film festival established as a platform for distinctive moving-image work from around the world. Its programming spans narrative, documentary, experimental practice and animation, with discussions, filmmaker participation and competitive awards. The 2027 event is the festival's twentieth edition. Selection does not guarantee a cash prize, distribution agreement or reimbursement for every filmmaker's travel.

Important: original submission rules take precedence

This article independently summarizes an external organizer's call and may include errors or out-of-date details. Before paying the late fee or uploading a film, confirm the current deadline and time zone, eligibility, maximum duration, Scottish residence tests, video and subtitle requirements, fees, prizes and licensing terms on the official GSFF website. In case of discrepancy, its original 2027 rules take precedence. Information checked October 26, 2026.
