Free Art Space KYOTO: Global Free Call for AI, Interactive and Generative Digital Art
Opportunity and format
Free Art Space KYOTO in Japan invites digital and AI artists from every country, age group and level of professional experience to enter its international open call. Selected works will be physically presented in Kyoto: still images are printed and framed, videos screened individually, interactive works run on a venue computer and selected live generative pieces displayed where technically feasible. Overseas artists do not have to attend in person.
Eligibility and eligible practices
The four categories are original digital still images (A3–A1 at 300 dpi), digital videos (longest side no more than 1920 pixels and up to three minutes), browser-based interactive art and real-time generative art. Interactive HTML projects must run offline by opening a local file in current Chrome or Edge, without servers, installation, paid APIs or logins. Sound-only works and photographs of physical paintings or sculptures are expressly ineligible.
Submission requirements
Anonymous selection means work files must not contain the artist's name, title or demographic details. Every work requires at least one screenshot proving its digital or AI production process, and a portfolio URL is mandatory. Still images need the finished JPEG/PNG and process screenshot attached directly in the form (two or three files total, up to 10 MB each). Video, interactive and real-time entries require accessible transfer or viewing links that need no sign-in or special permission. Previously awarded or selected works are excluded, although previously published but unawarded pieces may enter.
Dates, fees, rights and limitations
The application is free and ends 31 December 2026 at 23:59 JST. Minors enter through a parent or guardian. Prizes are art supplies or equipment worth up to ¥300,000 in total, not ¥300,000 cash automatically handed to every artist. Copyright stays with the creator; exhibition and promotional permissions are required for chosen works. Exhibiting artists need not receive a prize, and the small gallery warns that circumstances could delay or cancel the event.
