IMAGO Awards 2027: Cinematography Nominations by Member Societies Close October 31

IMAGO, the International Federation of Cinematographers, has opened nominations for its 2027 cinematography awards. Entries close October 31, 2026. The winning cinematographers will be recognised during IMAGO’s professional assembly events in Barcelona in April 2027. Important eligibility warning: these awards are not a direct, open-to-everyone online contest. Only IMAGO Full Member Societies in good standing can submit films, up to one nomination per category.

Two awards for cinema camera professionals

The IMAGO YSO Award highlights an emerging cinematographer's distinctive visual achievement in their first or second feature film. The Best Cinematography Award celebrates outstanding cinematography in a feature chosen by the submitting national or professional society. An individual cinematographer may be featured without being a member of that society, but the formal nomination must be authorised and submitted by a qualifying IMAGO member society.

Film eligibility and release window

Submitted works must be fiction feature films that have been publicly exhibited, released, broadcast, streamed or presented at festivals. First official release must fall between November 1, 2024 and October 31, 2026. Films are submitted in their original language; English subtitles are required where the original is not English. The cinematographer must be visibly credited as cinematographer, director of photography or an equivalent primary screen-credit role.

Materials required for societies

The official IMAGO instructions list a completed entry form, film screening link and digital copy, production details, cinematographer bio and filmography, at least three production stills, at least two photos of the cinematographer, trailer or excerpt, contacts, eligibility confirmation and a letter from the governing body of the member society authorising the entry. Shared cinematography credit should be nominated jointly.

Awards schedule

Submission deadline: October 31, 2026. First-round voting: November 13–30. Nominees expected December 7. Second-round voting: January 5–February 5, 2027. Ceremony and winners’ presentation: April 2027 at Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona, during IAGA 2027. IMAGO notes dates are provisional, so societies should watch official updates.
