Three months in Strasbourg: this is for artists from the Czech art scene

MeetFactory in Prague, together with CEAAC in Strasbourg and the French Institute in Prague, has opened applications for a contemporary-art residency scheduled from 3 May to 31 July 2027. Applications close on 15 November 2026. Although the residency takes place in France, it is not a fully open global programme: applicants must have worked actively within the Czech art scene for at least two years, completed their studies, and be able to communicate well in English.

The artist will work at CEAAC's Strasbourg premises, with studio space at La Virgule and accommodation in a shared flat near the institution. The organisers expressly state that the three-month residency cannot be split into shorter visits. Prospective candidates with existing teaching or employment commitments should therefore check their availability for the complete period.

Stipend, travel and project expenses: do not double-count them

The programme includes CZK 75,000 gross for the entire residency, calculated as CZK 25,000 gross per month, expressly inclusive of both living and production costs. It is not CZK 75,000 in artist fees plus an additional production allowance. Economy-class return transport from the artist's Czech place of residence to Strasbourg is covered up to CZK 5,000. Shared accommodation, studio access, a bicycle and curatorial and production support are also included.

Applicants must still plan how to use their fixed allowance for groceries, supplies, production and other incidentals, and should clarify any applicable tax or insurance obligations. A complex installation with costly electronic hardware could consume a substantial portion of the stated stipend. No promise of unlimited equipment, independent studio accommodation or separately funded international travel is made.

Who can apply and what should be included?

The official call requires at least two years of activity on the Czech art scene, completed studies, good English and availability throughout the residency. French is welcomed but is not compulsory. There is no age limit. Applicants must supply an English-language CV listing relevant exhibitions and projects, a portfolio of no more than ten pages, and a motivation letter no longer than 1,800 characters. The letter must explain the proposed artistic research, intended implementation and why the opportunity matters to the applicant's trajectory.

CEAAC's programming includes contemporary image practices, changing environments, vernacular cultures, artistic know-how and public-health themes. Proposals connected to these fields can be especially persuasive, although a thematic connection is not mandatory. Successful candidates are expected to share or present the results of their research at the end.

Selection calendar and submission details

Applications must be emailed to opencall@meetfactory.cz with the exact subject line 'OPENCALL STRASBURK 2027'. The organisers specify the deadline of 15 November 2026; late submissions will not be considered. A selection committee including MeetFactory staff, CEAAC representatives and the French Institute in Prague assesses the submissions. Shortlisted artists should expect interviews in the week starting 4 January 2027, with results by 15 January 2027.

A prospective applicant should assemble their portfolio as a concise PDF, keep the motivation within 1,800 characters, make sure exhibition records and dates are accurate, and clearly document at least two years of professional art-scene engagement. Check the original call for any last-minute changes before sending work.

Organiser background: two established contemporary-art centres

MeetFactory is a major independent contemporary-art institution in Prague, combining galleries, music programming, experimental performance and an international artist residency programme. Its website lists many past residents and institutional partners. CEAAC has been based in central Strasbourg since 1995, organises exhibitions and school/public programmes, and has developed artist-researcher residences for more than twenty years. The French Institute in Prague is also named as a collaborator. The call describes an identifiable jury and public selection process rather than a private fee-based recruitment service.
