Moonlighter Film Camp 2027: Women Filmmakers Learn Editing and Sound at Banff, Apply by November 10
Women filmmakers interested in documentary, adventure and outdoor storytelling can apply for Banff Centre's Moonlighter Film Camp: Post Production, scheduled in Alberta, Canada, from February 5 to February 8, 2027. The residential four-day intensive focuses on the less visible but essential parts of filmmaking: editing, sound mixing, colour correction, narrative structure and feedback on work in progress. Banff Centre's current programme page identifies November 10, 2026 as the application deadline.
Who is eligible?
The workshop is for filmmakers who identify as women and who are at least 18 years old at the programme start. Canadian and international applicants are welcome. Some prior filmmaking experience is expected: applicants should have completed at least one film screened in a professional environment, and have familiarity with production planning, camera or sound recording, editing or distribution. The course is conducted in English. Applicants from abroad must establish their own Canadian visitor-entry eligibility; the organizer cautions that the programme does not qualify for a Canadian study visa.
What the four-day intensive covers
Training includes developing an engaging narrative, editing scenes, refining a sound mix and applying colour correction. Faculty and guests offer practical workshop sessions, project critiques and small-group exchanges. Participants are encouraged to arrive with a specific project, their own laptop and relevant film material, and to be ready to discuss their preferred editing software. The programme should not be mistaken for a film festival with cash prizes or an unrestricted free artist residency.
Costs and scholarships: distinguish the two
According to Banff Centre's current fee breakdown, the programme cost before financial assistance is CAD 1,884.75. An identified scholarship amount of CAD 1,227.19 brings the displayed participant cost to CAD 657.57, subject to the organizer's terms, taxes and any further changes. A separate non-refundable application-processing fee of CAD 65 is listed, reduced to CAD 35 for applicants who identify as Indigenous. Accepted participants should still budget travel, visa and other personal expenses. Read the programme's cancellation and scholarship conditions before paying.
How to apply and why Banff Centre matters
Applicants complete the online application, pay the processing fee and upload materials through SlideRoom. The listed requirements include a two-page CV, one-page cover letter, a two-page project proposal, a sizzle reel or film links and the financial-aid section. Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity is an established Canadian centre providing professional training, artist residencies and cultural programmes in a mountain setting. Its Moonlighter series includes independent workshops at different stages of film production, so applying to a previous field-skills or concept-development camp does not register someone for this post-production course.
Dates and official application
Application deadline: November 10, 2026 (the organizer's latest programme page is definitive). Arrival is February 4, 2027, instruction February 5–8, and departure February 9. Note that some older Banff overview pages list different dates; the applicant should double-check the current individual programme page and portal.
