International open call

NewImages Festival 2027 has opened the Virtual Worlds Competition for artists and creators of immersive social and networked environments. It forms part of the French festival's 2027 competition program. The program accepts artistic, narrative and experimental experiences in shared virtual spaces, with no premiere requirement.

Eligible platforms and artwork

Examples listed by the organizer include VRChat, Roblox, Fortnite Creative, independent online worlds, multiplayer art spaces and interactive installations within virtual environments. The Virtual Worlds Competition is separate from the XR Competition and the Fulldome Competition; applicants should identify the relevant category on the organizer's application portal.

Deadlines and fees

The competition open call runs from September 4 to December 22, 2026. The published call lists December 10 as an earlybird milestone and December 22 as the final deadline, but the Virtual Worlds category is free throughout the application process. The €75–€100 fees shown on the same page apply to different, paid competitions rather than to Virtual Worlds.

Selection and awards

Selected projects are presented within the official Virtual Worlds Competition at NewImages Festival 2027 and become eligible for the Virtual Worlds Award of €3,000. The announcement also lists two complimentary festival accreditations and international visibility to industry professionals and cultural organizations. No guarantee of selection or payment is implied by submission.

Application procedure

Use the NewImages competition application portal, which begins by requesting the applicant's email address. The full entry form and any technical documentation are provided by the organizer. Consult the current call page for eligibility, judging and exhibition requirements before submitting a project.
