Photoville and PhotoWings have opened the Educator Exhibition Grant for the 2027 Photoville Festival in New York. Six educators will receive a $500 cash grant each, professional curatorial and printing support, and a public exhibition of their students' photographic work at the 2027 festival. This is a school-based photography education opportunity, not an unrestricted $500 award for individual photographers. The dedicated grant program page states applications close December 18, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.

Who can actually apply?

The separate grant page welcomes middle and high school educators who have previously participated in a Photoville Education program, and says New York City-based schools receive priority. Elementary-school teachers, university-level instructors, school administrators and artists not working directly with qualifying students should not assume they are eligible. The main festival page summarizes the program more narrowly as an NYC educator grant, so applicants outside New York City should confirm eligibility with the program coordinator before submitting.

What the six awardees receive

Each selected teacher receives $500 and assistance turning students' lens-based projects into a finished public presentation. Photoville provides curatorial advice, design, printing, installation logistics and inclusion in the festival's public exhibition program. The grant is attached to creating a student photo exhibition; the terms do not promise an individual artist salary, equipment purchase grant or funding for every classroom participant.

How to design a strong education proposal

The program builds on lessons in the Photoville Educator Resource library. A practical application should identify the age group, school, classroom goals, photographic assignment, student safeguarding and image permissions, accessibility and anticipated exhibition outcome. The official website archives past student photography programs involving portraits, alternative processes, migrant narratives, community histories and intergenerational projects.

Important difference between two official deadlines

Photoville's general 2027 Festival landing page also contains an educator-grant summary with a conflicting January 4, 2027 date and weekday. The dedicated Educator Exhibition Grant application page explicitly says December 18, 2026. Since the two Photoville pages disagree, this article recommends submitting by December 18, 2026 and directly confirming the correct closing date at info@photoville.com. The main international photography festival exhibition call separately closes December 22, 2026.

Safer deadline: December 18, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. ET, subject to direct confirmation because official pages currently conflict.
