Screen Queensland Games Residency 2027: Applications Open for Queensland Game Developers
Overview
Screen Queensland is accepting applications for its 2027 Games Residency, a 52-week business-development program for emerging Queensland game developers. The residency combines a dedicated co-working environment with mentoring, industry connections and structured support for building a sustainable independent games business. It is a residency and professional-development opportunity, not an employment vacancy.
Eligibility
Applicants must be Queensland residents, be at least 18 years old and be legally entitled to work in Australia. They must not be employed full-time by a games company and must use software tools to create digital games. Overseas working-holiday visitors and overseas students are not eligible. Applicants also need a viable games-related business idea and must meet the relevant Workforce Australia Self-Employment Assistance conditions. The program welcomes complementary skills including game art, design, production and programming.
What the residency provides
Participants receive 39 weeks of permanent access and 11 weeks of casual access to the residency hub, alongside mentoring, workshops, networking and opportunities to present their work. Eligible participants may separately qualify for Self-Employment Allowance and Rent Assistance, subject to the responsible program’s rules. Residents are expected to provide their own suitable computer and development equipment.
Dates and selection
Applications close on Wednesday 11 November 2026 at 5:00 p.m. AEST. Screen Queensland lists an information session for 21 October, an intensive workshop from 1 to 4 December, offers from 8 December and a program start date of 6 January 2027. Shortlisted applicants should be available for the selection activities described on the official page.
How to apply
Applications are submitted through the official SmartyGrants link. Required materials include a résumé or portfolio, a short cover letter or video response, two referees and information about the proposed games business. Applicants should answer the assessment questions directly and confirm every document and eligibility requirement before submission.
