Overview

University of the Arts London (UAL) is recruiting a permanent Senior UX Designer for its Digital Services team. The role is hybrid between UAL High Holborn and home, works 35 hours a week and carries an advertised salary of £52,977–£63,815 per year.

Role and responsibilities

The Senior UX Designer will lead user-experience design services and help embed user-centred design, research and accessibility standards across digital products. The post covers discovery and delivery work with product teams, improvement of existing services, development of UX principles and methodologies, and the use of evidence and data to assess design effectiveness.

The role also includes coaching other UX designers, supporting UAL’s wider design community and potentially taking on future line management. UAL describes a history of creative education dating to 1842 and currently comprises six specialist colleges, four institutes, five research centres and a large international student and staff community.

Candidate profile and UK eligibility

Applicants should have extensive experience with user-centred design, design thinking and UX methods across the full product lifecycle. UAL seeks strong research synthesis, storytelling, communication and presentation skills, alongside experience working with senior stakeholders and multidisciplinary agile teams. The successful candidate should be able to mentor designers and turn research, feedback and data into practical design decisions.

UAL states that all roles require the legal right to work in the United Kingdom before employment can begin. Sponsorship is not available for every role and, where available, is stated in the specific advert. Applicants should therefore review the live vacancy and role-specific eligibility before applying.

Contract, deadline and application

This is a permanent, 35-hour position. Applications close at 11:55pm UK time on Sunday 1 November 2026. UAL may close the vacancy early if it receives a high volume of applications, with advance notice where possible.

Applications must be submitted through UAL’s authorized applicant-tracking route. Candidates create an account and provide the requested application materials, including a supporting statement or answers to competency questions. UAL uses an anonymous selection process followed by shortlisting, interview and assessment.
