The Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival (VIMFF) in Canada has opened its 2027 film-submission window. The festival's official page states that applications close 30 November 2026 and that the main February festival runs 19–26 February 2027. VIMFF is oriented toward film and media stories about mountains, outdoor experiences, exploration, cultures and the environment. It can be relevant to documentary cinematographers, short-film teams and experimental outdoor visual storytellers.

What films fit the programme?

VIMFF builds public screenings around adventure, conservation, communities, landscapes and the broader culture of life outdoors. Creators should check the current FilmFreeway page for permitted runtimes, categories, production dates and premiere restrictions, rather than presuming every animation or narrative short is eligible. A clear statement of the film's link to outdoor or mountain themes will strengthen its suitability.

Submission fees and screening permissions

The festival directs applicants to FilmFreeway for the current 2027 rules and submission, including any category fees, waiver options and preview formats. The public VIMFF page does not establish one universal free-entry price, so filmmakers must check the checkout amount before uploading. Applicants should possess the necessary permissions for music, archive material, footage, performance rights and portrayed people.

Festival and international World Tour are separate outcomes

The VIMFF organization hosts screenings in Vancouver and also operates a World Tour that carries selected works into Canada, the United States and other international destinations. Entry into the February programme does not automatically guarantee distribution on tour, a filmmaker travel allowance or a cash award. If invited, filmmakers should read the screening licence and tour rights carefully.

About the organizer

The Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival maintains festival archives, award histories, multimedia events, workshops and outdoor-community partnerships. Its established programmes make the official film-submission page a credible primary source. Check for last-minute deadline changes directly on that page and in FilmFreeway.
