- SAFC First Nations Practitioner Development Fund 2026/27: A$2,500 for South Australian Screen Creatives
South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC) offers the First Nations Practitioner Development Fund to strengthen professional skills, networks and career opportunities among First Nations screen practitioners. Eligible key creatives, cast and crew may seek targeted assistance for important professional development activities, including film, screen and related digital production work. ELIGIBILITY: RESIDENCY AND CULTURAL REQUIREMENTS — SAFC states this fund is ONLY OPEN to FIRST NATIONS SCREEN PRACTITIONERS WHO RESIDE IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA. It is neither a general screen-artist grant for all Australian residents nor a worldwide Indigenous arts award. Applicants should consult the official programme guidelines and the organiser directly about the applicable verification and supporting documentation. FUNDING AMOUNT — Applicants may apply for up to A$2,500 per year as a contribution towards appropriate travel and accommodation costs. A travel budget is required. This is not a guaranteed A$2,500 unrestricted grant to anyone who attends a film event; the opportunity must support a meaningful professional goal and meet the rules. ELIGIBLE ACTIVITIES — The organiser cites professional courses or training programmes, industry events and film festivals at which the applicant's work has been selected, trade markets, conferences, and attachments or placements with established production companies. The programme may allow both national and international network development, as applicable to the applicant's documented career plan. APPLICATION STATUS AND DATE — The active SAFC 2026/27 SmartyGrants round is currently open and lists submissions closing at the end of 25 June 2027 (ACST). Applicants seeking to undertake an activity sooner should verify the required lead time and submit sufficiently before committing non-refundable travel expenses. HOW TO PREPARE — Prepare a clear career objective, evidence of professional practice, event or training details, the role you will play, a budget for travel and accommodation, and the outcomes you expect. The exact list of documents and the conditions on funded expenses are determined by the official guidelines and SAFC Terms of Trade. CONTACT REQUIRED — SAFC explicitly instructs applicants to review its Terms of Trade and speak with the agency about the intended grant request before submitting. That consultation also helps clarify whether a particular animation, media-production, crew or screen-practice opportunity fits the professional-development focus. WHY THE ORGANISER IS RELIABLE — SAFC is South Australia's state screen development body, with a First Nations Screen Strategy and programmes for professional development, production and emerging practitioners. Its website provides the guidelines, programme contacts and a link to the formal online grants platform. OFFICIAL PROGRAMME — https://www.safilm.com.au/funding-programs/ (see 'First Nations Practitioner Development Fund'). Applications: https://safilm.smartygrants.com.au/ . Use the 2026/27 round, not a closed previous-year grant form. VERIFICATION DATE: 22 OCTOBER 2026 — The award maximum and residency restriction come from SAFC's programme description, and the 2027 round date comes from the live government-supported grant portal. Check the current eligibility and timing requirements before applying.
- Canada Media Fund Iteration Program 2026/27: New Features for Previously CMF-Funded Digital Games
Canada Media Fund's 2026/27 Iteration Program is a pilot funding route for EXISTING interactive digital media (IDM) projects. Its purpose is to help already-funded, commercially or otherwise demonstrably market-proven projects create substantial NEW CONTENT or SIGNIFICANT FEATURES that can attract returning and new audiences. OPENING AND CLOSING DATES — Applications are scheduled to open 28 October 2026 and close on 8 December 2026. The CMF describes assessment as FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED. The programme is not yet open as of 22 October 2026, and prospective eligible teams should have their evidence and documents ready ahead of the opening date. CRITICAL ELIGIBILITY LIMITATION — An eligible project must already have RECEIVED CMF FUNDING through a relevant IDM programme AND shown market success. This is not a fresh start-up fund for a new game prototype, not a global open call and not a general patching budget for any commercially released product. Applicants must also satisfy the Canadian-status, company, project and other requirements in the 2026/27 Iteration and IDM Core Guidelines. WHAT TYPES OF WORK ARE INTENDED? — Substantial additional game content, major new functional capabilities or significant audience-facing extensions to a previously funded product could meet the stated programme purpose. Whether an expansion pack, platform development, accessibility feature or other proposed work qualifies must be judged against the guidelines; the summary description alone does not establish eligibility. APPLICATION TIMING — Since this is a first-come, first-served fund, waiting until the December closing day can increase the risk that the available allocation has already been committed. Check the programme page and online application system on the opening date for live availability; CMF may update its funding programmes. BUDGET AND DOCUMENTS — The organiser lists an Iteration Budget 2026/27, work and business plans, Canadian-status declaration and corporate details where applicable, narrative positioning materials, and other required application resources. Use the current templates and provide evidence identifying the PREVIOUS CMF-FUNDED PROJECT, its success in the marketplace and the new features or content proposed. DO NOT CONFUSE WITH PROTOTYPING — CMF's Prototyping Program supports a first functional prototype in the early development phase. Iteration, by contrast, targets an established previously funded project with proven success and needs a different business case. Applying to the incorrect funding stream can waste scarce preparation time. THE ORGANISER — The Canada Media Fund operates multiple programmes for Canada's screen and interactive digital media industries and publishes dedicated rulebooks, dates, forms and explanatory applicant resources. Its programmes have different eligibility gates even when they share an IDM focus. OFFICIAL SOURCE — https://cmf-fmc.ca/program/iteration-program/ . Follow the organiser's 2026/27 Iteration and IDM Core Guidelines and use the approved online system rather than third-party submission links. VERIFIED 22 OCTOBER 2026 — Funding amounts are intentionally omitted because a universal maximum was not confirmed on the official overview. Submission opening is prospective, while existing-project CMF funding and demonstrated market success are central eligibility conditions.
- SAFC Export Market Travel Fund 2026–27: Up to A$5,000 for South Australian Film and Game Teams
South Australian screen and video game creators considering an international industry market can explore the South Australian Film Corporation's Export Market Travel Fund 2026–27. This travel assistance is designed to help move promising South Australian projects towards production by building export finance, industry relationships and commercial partnerships. FUNDING — Individual applications can seek up to A$3,500, and teams of two or more can seek up to A$5,000. The grant is aimed at eligible market travel and is not a standalone budget for making a feature film or completing a computer game. Award amounts depend on the programme rules, costs and assessment. TARGETED MARKETS — SAFC names professional film, television and video game events such as Gamescom, Game Developers Conference (GDC), Cannes Film Market, European Film Market, American Film Market, IDFA Forum, KidScreen Summit, MIPCOM, SeriesMania and other markets. Events not named may be reviewed case by case. Applicants should explain how the specific event offers industry meetings and finance or production outcomes. ELIGIBILITY — This is a funding programme for SOUTH AUSTRALIAN SCREEN PROJECTS and applicants who meet SAFC's programme-specific requirements, not a worldwide travel prize. Video game development can be relevant because GDC and Gamescom are explicitly listed. Applicants must consult the official guidelines to confirm residency or business structure, project ownership, market readiness and eligible itinerary. APPLICATION STATUS — SAFC says applications can be made at any time through its SmartyGrants platform. The active 2026–27 Export Market Travel Fund round is listed on that portal as OPEN, with a scheduled closing time of the end of 25 June 2027 (ACST). As this is an activity-specific grant, check the guidelines for how far in advance of travel the application should be made; do not wait until the fiscal-year closing date if you are departing earlier. BEFORE YOU APPLY — SAFC requires applicants to read the SAFC Terms of Trade and speak with an SAFC representative regarding the grant and their expectations before application. Prepare your event invitation or meeting schedule, project materials, team roster, target partners and a realistic travel budget. WHAT THE FUND IS NOT — This fund addresses a specific international market-access need; it should not be confused with the larger Digital Games Fund for pre-production, production or post-release milestones. Meeting the maximum travel cap does not remove programme rules or substitute for evidence of a credible export opportunity. ORGANISER BACKGROUND — South Australian Film Corporation is the state's public agency supporting local film, TV, screen talent and game creators, and its own funding pages describe relevant market events, grant limits and required application procedures. OFFICIAL INFORMATION — https://www.safilm.com.au/funding-programs/ . ACTIVE 2026–27 ROUNDS — https://safilm.smartygrants.com.au/ . Review the Export Market Travel Fund guidelines accessible from the SAFC funding page. EDITORIAL VERIFICATION: 22 OCTOBER 2026 — The portal's 25 June 2027 closing date is a programme-round administrative end date, not permission to seek funding after an earlier travel event has already occurred. Confirm timing directly with SAFC.
- Western Australia Creative Industries Travel and Trade 2026: A$10,000 International Support for Digital Creatives
Western Australia's Creative Industries Travel and Trade Program is currently taking applications for significant professional travel opportunities. It is a cross-disciplinary government creative-industry fund, relevant for eligible digital artists, media creatives, animation professionals and small creative businesses where their specific practice and opportunity meet the programme's official eligibility criteria. DEADLINE — The round closes on Thursday 3 December 2026 at 4:00 pm Western Australian local time. This is a real published deadline on the government funding page; Australian states use different local times, so applicants should not confuse Perth time with time in Sydney, Melbourne or Adelaide. FUNDING OPTIONS — Grants of up to A$5,000 are offered for regional or national travel opportunities and grants of up to A$10,000 for international opportunities. The official purpose is to support travel-related costs allowing a creative practitioner or business to respond to an unusually timely career or business opportunity. REQUIRED WESTERN AUSTRALIAN CONNECTION — Projects must involve WEST AUSTRALIAN artists, art workers or small creative businesses with a professional arts or creative practice. Eligible recipient types include individuals, groups and small creative businesses. This is not a worldwide open competition, and visiting Western Australia as a tourist is not proof of programme eligibility. RELEVANCE FOR DIGITAL AND MEDIA ARTS — A digital artist attending a major professional exhibition, an animation producer presenting a project at a relevant industry meeting, or a creative technology studio seeking an important business opportunity may consider the programme. However, applicants must verify whether their specific digital-media field and proposed activity qualify under the 2026 guidelines; the broad term 'creative' is not automatic acceptance of every videogame, software or AI project. WHAT THE FUNDER LOOKS FOR — The official programme prioritises travel that responds to significant career and business opportunities, aligns with Western Australian government objectives and benefits the wider community. Your proposal should document the opportunity, the industry partner or organiser, professional outcomes, travel costs and why the event cannot easily be substituted by a routine online meeting. BUILD A REALISTIC PLAN — Prepare an invitation, programme listing or business meeting plan, applicant background, professional portfolio, itemised travel cost budget and intended local-sector benefit. Refer to the programme's linked guidelines for exclusions, evidence and match-funding rules rather than relying on a general description of travel grants. ABOUT THE ORGANISER — Western Australia's Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport distributes arts and creative-sector funding on behalf of the state government and maintains a public register of open and upcoming grants. Its central page links the specific Travel and Trade Program guidance and the online application route. OFFICIAL FUNDING PAGE — https://www.dlgsc.wa.gov.au/funding/creative-industries-funding/c04e3b10-16c3-4463-9cda-8287f864f31e . Locate 'Creative Industries Travel and Trade Program' and open the linked current rules before applying. VERIFIED 22 OCTOBER 2026 — Funding is competitive and project-specific. The 4pm 3 December date, grant maxima and state eligibility are from the official WA listing; confirm live status and the creative field's eligibility before travel is booked.
- Canada Media Fund IDM Prototyping 2026/27: Canadian Games and Interactive Media Call Opens 27 October
The Canada Media Fund (CMF) is preparing the second 2026/27 application round of its Interactive Digital Media (IDM) Prototyping Program. The programme supports qualifying Canadian interactive digital media projects early in development, when developers need to explore and validate functionality, experience design and core technical hypotheses before committing to full production. APPLICATION DATES — The second round OPENS on 27 October 2026 and its FINAL CLOSING DATE is 10 November 2026, according to the official CMF calendar. As of 22 October 2026 this second window is not yet open. The first round of the same year ended in May 2026; do not confuse the two deadlines. WHAT PROTOTYPING MEANS — The CMF describes support for early work intended to demonstrate a product's functionalities and design, to experiment with ideas, and to arrive at a FIRST FUNCTIONAL PROTOTYPE. Games, immersive media, interactive applications and other eligible IDM projects may fit, subject to the official definitions and funding scope. A project already released and seeking an ordinary content patch belongs in a different development category. ELIGIBILITY — This is a CANADA MEDIA FUND programme governed by its Canadian-status and IDM Core Guidelines, not a globally open art competition. Applicants must verify the required Canadian applicant/entity profile, interactive-media definitions, control of underlying project rights and all other corporate requirements. An overseas studio with no eligible Canadian structure should not assume it qualifies. FUNDING BASIS — The organiser's programme page does not present a single universal grant ceiling in its public summary. Support is selectively awarded according to the 2026/27 Prototyping Guidelines, programme budget and assessment. Consult the guidelines for the amount that can be requested, eligible prototype work, financial participation and assessment requirements. REQUIRED APPLICATION MATERIALS — CMF lists a budget including cashflow, a community engagement plan, Canadian-status declaration and corporate details where applicable, narrative positioning statements, a sustainability plan, and required-document lists. Applicants should use the CURRENT 2026/27 templates and IDM glossary, not an archived year's application budget. PRACTICAL PREPARATION — Describe the core interactive experience, which assumptions need testing, the scope of the first functional build, the project team and production calendar. Provide sensible cost and milestone planning with demonstrable Canadian applicant eligibility. Accessibility and collaborative-development issues should be reviewed in the formal guidance. THE ORGANISER — Canada Media Fund is a national screen and digital-media funding body. Its official website hosts the 2026/27 programme information, complete guidelines, application resources, applicant support materials and a link to its online application system. OFFICIAL SOURCE — https://cmf-fmc.ca/program/prototyping-program/ . This is the authoritative programme page for the specific second round. Check the exact online portal closing time and latest guidelines once the application window opens. REVIEWED 22 OCTOBER 2026 — This is advance notice. Applicants cannot assume the 27 October window is already accepting submissions on the article date.
- SAFC Digital Games Fund 2026–27: Up to A$150,000 for South Australian Video Game Developers
The South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC) has opened its Digital Games Fund 2026–27, supporting eligible South Australian game development teams as they achieve a meaningful production milestone. Applications for the new annual round opened on 21 October 2026. This programme covers artistic and commercial digital game development; it is not an international art prize or a general-purpose grant for purchasing game hardware. THREE STREAMS — (1) PRE-PRODUCTION: up to A$30,000 to explore and validate a new game concept through early design, prototyping, technical proof of concept, narrative design, art direction, market research and planning. (2) PRODUCTION: up to A$150,000 for games already in or approaching production with a credible pathway to release, audience or further finance. (3) POST-RELEASE: up to A$50,000 to extend a game's commercial life, audience reach or platform availability with a substantial plan. POST-RELEASE RESTRICTIONS — The organiser expressly distinguishes substantial post-launch work from routine maintenance or small bug patches. Ongoing operating costs and ordinary updates alone do not meet the published programme purpose, unless incorporated into a substantive, well-defined eligible post-release strategy. ELIGIBILITY — The programme is for eligible SOUTH AUSTRALIAN DIGITAL GAME DEVELOPERS. Applicants must examine the programme guidelines for specific entity, team, intellectual-property, project expenditure and milestone requirements, plus SAFC Terms of Trade. A developer based outside South Australia should not assume that simply having an Australian audience or using an Australian publisher creates eligibility. STATUS AND CLOSING DATE — SAFC confirms that the 2026–27 round opened on 21 October 2026, and its live SmartyGrants portal says submissions are being accepted. However, the official pages inspected on 22 October did NOT list a firm closing date for the Digital Games Fund. This article therefore does not invent a deadline; confirm the current cut-off directly with SAFC before planning an application. APPLICATION AND MATERIALS — The SAFC programme page links a Digital Games Fund guideline document, a budget template and the current electronic form. The project synopsis, development milestone, commercial strategy, finance plan, team track record, grant budget and evidence of South Australian benefit should be made consistent with the funding stream selected and the exact guidelines. MANDATORY PRE-APPLICATION CONTACT — SAFC states applicants must read its Terms of Trade AND speak to SAFC about their intended grant request before applying. Contacting the programme coordinator and, if appropriate, the Game Development Executive is more reliable than submitting on the basis of an informal third-party advertisement. ABOUT THE ORGANISER — The South Australian Film Corporation is the state's public screen-development agency, supporting film, television and video games. Its strategy for 2025–28 includes strengthening South Australian game studios, promoting innovative projects with critical, artistic and commercial merit, and bringing more games to market. OFFICIAL PROGRAMME AND GUIDELINES — https://www.safilm.com.au/funding-programs/ . Active application portal: https://safilm.smartygrants.com.au/DGF2627 . The portal is managed on SmartyGrants for SAFC applicants; consult it directly for updated status and application requirements. VERIFIED 22 OCTOBER 2026 — Grant maximums are in Australian dollars and differ by development stage. Approval depends on competitive evaluation and budget availability; 'up to' is not a guarantee of funding.
- Screen NSW First Nations Screen Fellowship 2026: A$25,000 Support for NSW Screen Creatives — 29 October Deadline
Screen NSW is accepting applications for the First Nations Screen Fellowship 2026, a competitive career-development programme for one mid-career Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander screen practitioner in New South Wales. The Fellowship is intended for experienced screen writers, directors or producers who want to advance an early-stage project and their professional connections. APPLICATION DEADLINE — Thursday 29 October 2026 at 2 pm. Screen NSW lists Australian Eastern time on the programme page; use the deadline shown by the official SmartyGrants application portal, as daylight-saving notation can affect conversions. Applications opened on 24 September 2026. ELIGIBILITY — Applicants must identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander; be over 18; be Australian citizens; and have lived in New South Wales for at least the six months immediately before applying. Applicants also need an Australian Business Number (ABN). These conditions are cumulative, not alternatives, and this is not a global open call. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE — Applicants must be mid-career writers, directors and/or producers who have between one and four key creative credits in professionally produced screen work and otherwise satisfy Screen NSW's Terms of Trade. Screen practitioners without the specified credits, NSW residency or eligibility documentation should check with the organiser rather than assume they can apply. PACKAGE — Total published support is A$25,000: A$22,000 in grant funding and A$3,000 in-kind mentoring. The grant component is broken down into A$15,500 for early-stage project development, A$6,000 toward international industry travel and A$500 toward relevant guild membership. A 12-month professional mentorship is included and valued at A$3,000. APPLICATION MATERIALS — Prepare a CV of no more than two A4 pages, up to three relevant recent work samples, a one-page synopsis of the proposed development project, a signed letter of support from an Elder or First Nations community member, and a letter of support from an established screen practitioner. Follow the programme's file-size, footage-length and PDF requirements rather than sending oversized attachments. APPLICATION PROCESS — Only submissions through the Screen NSW SmartyGrants portal are accepted. A registration may be needed, and application records should be saved before the deadline. The published guidelines explain assessment by Screen NSW personnel and an external First Nations screen-sector specialist. WHY THE ORGANISER MATTERS — Screen NSW is a New South Wales Government screen development body within the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism, Hospitality and Sport. It publishes its grant guidelines, terms of trade, programme priorities, contacts and links to the official application service. Its programme is focused on strengthening First Nations screen opportunities and the state's screen sector. WHO MAY BENEFIT — Eligible writers, directors and producers developing a screen or screen-based media project may benefit; this is not a general competition for animation files, not a student prize and not a grant automatically available to all artists. The applicant's creative credits, NSW ties and community support are essential parts of the process. OFFICIAL PROGRAMME — https://www.screen.nsw.gov.au/funding-support/first-nations-screen-fellowship OFFICIAL APPLICATION — https://screennsw.smartygrants.com.au/firstnationsscreenfellowship2026 EDITORIAL VERIFICATION — Source information checked against Screen NSW's current programme on 22 October 2026. - Ireland Film Bursary Award 2027: Arts Council Experimental Film Practice Funding, Opens 10 November
2027 Film Bursary within the Arts Council's first funding round The Arts Council of Ireland (An Chomhairle Ealaíon) includes a distinct Film Bursary Award among its 2027 Bursary Award Round 1 opportunities. The bursary programme is intended to give individual artists time and resources to research, reflect on and significantly develop their artistic practice. The film stream is separate from the Council's Visual Arts Bursary Award and from production-focused film project grants. Artistic film and moving-image practice The Arts Council's previous Film Bursary guidance describes a focus on professional film artists developing artist-authored, experimental and non-narrative cinematic practices. It distinguishes an artist's practice development from funding the production of a film. These examples are background from earlier guidance, not a substitute for the still-pending rules for the 2027 round. Filmmakers working with experimental moving images and related artistic approaches should check whether their proposed practice falls within the final 2027 Film Bursary criteria. Funding level and scheduled application dates The official 2027 Bursary Award Round 1 page specifies a maximum of €20,000 for individual artists. The scheduled opening date is 10 November 2026 and applications are due by 5:30pm Irish time on 17 December 2026. On 22 October the round is marked 'Opening soon'; the page says guidelines and templates are generally released around two weeks before opening. Eligibility and preparing an application Artists need to consult the Film Bursary's own 2027 guidelines and apply through the Arts Council's official application system. Current round-level information does not settle precise nationality, residence or evidence requirements for each applicant. The Council's general applicant guidance outlines how to prepare supporting material, register and submit applications, and how submissions are assessed. An application to this stream should not be confused with a grant for a completed film production. About the organiser Ireland's Arts Council is the national public agency for developing the arts, with longstanding programmes for experimental film, visual arts and other creative practices. Its website publishes separate artform bursaries and makes the relevant guidance available as part of its funding calendar. Official scheme information The Round 1 page lists the Film Bursary as a separate artform opportunity, together with application timing, maximum award and access to applicant guidance. Consult the Film section and current call materials for the detailed criteria. Arts Council 2027 Bursary Award Round 1 — Film stream Important note This article provides a summary. Visual arts professional placement at documenta16 Friends of Goethe Australia and Goethe-Institut Australia have opened applications for a supported work-experience placement at documenta16 in Kassel, Germany. The opportunity is for an emerging professional already working in the visual arts in Australia. The placement lasts four to six weeks between July and September 2027, with participation in the documenta16 Live Arts programme and related performances and artistic events. It is a work-experience stipend, not an advertised permanent arts job. Eligibility and professional focus Candidates are expected to have a demonstrated contemporary visual-arts background, to be able to contribute to a major exhibition team, and to be actively involved in the placement. The programme is aimed at emerging arts professionals working in Australia as part of Friends of Goethe Australia's professional-development mission. The official application form asks candidates about their current position, work experience and contributions to Australia's artistic community. Nationality, visa and other detailed conditions must be confirmed against the official terms, rather than assumed from the programme name. A$10,000 stipend and German course The successful candidate receives A$10,000 toward travel, accommodation and living costs for the four- to six-week placement. German-language proficiency is not mandatory. Goethe-Institut Australia also offers a free German course, available digitally or in person, as part of the stipend package. The stated amount is a support stipend, not a salary. Application and deadline Applications close on 31 October 2026. Candidates submit their résumé and a one-page cover letter of no more than 500 words explaining their interest, expected professional development and possible contribution to the documenta16 team. The official application also requests information on the applicant's background, motivation and how the experience may benefit the wider Australian arts community. It is administered by the council in partnership with the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland. Eligible visual, design and digital creative projects are considered through the same programme criteria; this is not a grant reserved exclusively for digital art. The proposed activity must take place between 23 March 2027 and 21 March 2028, with a contribution from funding or support sources beyond this fellowship. No more than half of the requested fellowship may be spent on travel, touring, accommodation and living expenses. Applicant eligibility Applicants must be emerging or early-career artists or creative workers living in the Brisbane local government area, Australian citizens or permanent residents, and at least 17 years old. They need a Brisbane-registered Australian Business Number or support from an eligible Brisbane-based auspice organisation, and must not have outstanding council grant acquittals. The programme is for individuals rather than a general artist-group project fund. Application dates and grant restrictions Applications opened at 9 a.m. on 28 September 2026 and close at 3 p.m. Brisbane local time on Monday, 16 November 2026. Brisbane City Council expects to notify applicants in late March 2027. Applicants may not receive the Lord Mayor's Creative Fellowship and Creative Sparks Grant in the same financial year, and council rules exclude applicants who received A$10,000 or more in council creative funding during the 2026–27 financial year. Who organises the fellowship Brisbane City Council maintains the programme as part of its creative and history grants, with lists of prior recipients published on the official website. The fellowship is distinguished from the council's project-based Creative Sparks grants by its focus on an individual artist's structured career development. Official rules and application The council's website lists eligibility, financial limits, dates, current guidelines and its SmartyGrants application link.
