CSP × Zea Mays Printmaking Residency 2027: Two Weeks Funded, Members Apply by 6 November
The California Society of Printmakers (CSP) is offering a juried artist-in-residence opportunity at Zea Mays Printmaking in western Massachusetts for a two-week period during 2027. Proposals are due 6 November 2026, with the selected artist to be informed by 20 November. The grant covers access to an equipped private printmaking studio and on-site accommodation, but one crucial restriction applies: applicants must already hold current qualifying CSP membership.
Artist, student or lifetime members only
The organizer specifies eligibility for current CSP ARTIST, STUDENT and LIFETIME members. General visitors to Zea Mays or printmakers who are not CSP members are not eligible for this particular CSP-supported award. Previous CSP residency recipients are asked to wait three years before applying again. Applicants should check their membership status and the exact administrative terms before completing the portfolio form; the programme is not an unrestricted international cash grant.
Facilities available around the clock
The grant provides a two-week residency with Monday check-in and check-out, 24-hour access to the private printmaking Annex and space in the on-site guest suite, which may be shared. The studio offers etching and photopolymer equipment, screen printing, woodcut and linocut, monotype and related print processes, together with limited digital resources. The centre explicitly cannot support cyanotype or stone lithography and requires advance authorization for printmaking chemicals. Artists should propose work matching the actual facilities and safety standards.
A refundable $100 booking deposit, not an award fee
After selection, the artist must place a US$100 deposit within thirty days to reserve an available 2027 studio slot; it is refunded at check-out. This should not be described as a nonrefundable entry charge or a residency salary. Travel, food, art supplies, insurance and local transport are not stated as universally reimbursed. Applicants should clarify any additional expenses before accepting a date.
Portfolio and responsibilities for the awardee
Proposals may contain up to ten images of works made during the past three years. The chosen artist is expected to deliver a short presentation at CSP's annual meeting in person or remotely, provide documentation for its Relevant Ink newsletter and donate one or two residency-related prints to the society's collection. These obligations are part of the exchange for institutional support and should be considered in the project plan.
Verifiable institutions
CSP is a long-running printmaking artists' society, while Zea Mays is known for its non-toxic and environmentally considered printmaking practice. Both partners publish their names, jurors, facilities, application platform and programme calendars. Read their official documents together rather than relying on a generic Zea Mays commercial residency rate, since the CSP-funded slot has its own eligibility and selection conditions.
