Creative Europe 2027 Innovation Lab: Cross-Sector AI, VR and Digital Cultural Tools Funded
The Creative Europe 2027 Creative Innovation Lab is accepting proposals for innovative digital solutions that can be used across different cultural and creative industries. The official funding notice was published in October 2026, with a deadline of April 22, 2027 at 4 p.m. in Ireland. It can support technology such as AI, virtual reality and new digital business tools where those tools have demonstrable use across the audiovisual field and at least one other eligible sector. It is not a generic grant for every individual AI artwork or game.
The cross-sector requirement is essential
Projects must address the audiovisual industry and at least one additional cultural or creative sector, which may include music, books or museums. A technology platform linking audiovisual and music licensing, a reusable accessibility tool or a cross-sector discovery system may fit the policy better than a standalone film, music video or interactive installation. The programme aims to improve distribution, creation, market access and sustainable business models across cultural fields; applications should demonstrate the practical users and adoption path for their solution.
Applicant eligibility: organisations, not individuals worldwide
Applicants must be eligible legal entities established in participating Creative Europe countries and meet the programme's control and ownership rules. The call can accept qualifying individual organisations or consortia, depending on the project design. A freelance creator without an eligible legal entity cannot simply submit an informal portfolio, and a company registered outside the eligible territory should not assume an overseas partner's presence gives it grant-recipient status. The full rules on country eligibility and legal form are in the European Commission call.
An 80% funding rate, not an automatic award
The notice specifies a programme grant rate of up to 80% of eligible expenditure. That percentage is a ceiling for the grant contribution to an approved budget, not a guaranteed subsidy for any idea submitted. Applicants must plan their own financing for the remaining share and for costs outside the programme's eligibility rules. The public summary does not justify inventing a single maximum payment per project; check the detailed budget and lump-sum arrangements in the Commission's portal.
Technical and business case
A credible application should identify the market problem, proposed digital method, development milestones, intellectual-property position, cross-industry test partners and route to adoption. Relevant technologies include machine-learning workflows, XR experiences, data-driven tools and other innovations, but using an AI buzzword alone is insufficient. Proposals should also address inclusion, sustainability and practical dissemination of the results, as relevant to the published assessment criteria.
