International Mute Photo Festival 2027: Free Global Thermal-Printer Camera Photo Call

An unconventional photography and moving-image-adjacent art opportunity

The International Mute Photo Festival (IMPhF) is inviting new photography series for its 2027 edition in Karlovasi, Samos, Greece. Its theme is 'Nature ate the pixels', focusing on the relationship between human presence and the natural environment. This is particularly relevant to experimental image-makers interested in low-resolution, thermal and post-digital aesthetics—but it is not a conventional smartphone photography contest or a general AI image competition.

A strict camera requirement

Only pictures captured using children's instant thermal-printer cameras are eligible. Participants should not substitute photographs taken on a mobile phone, regular digital camera or professional thermal imaging camera. Work should engage with one of the official directions: Landscape, Symbiosis, Rebirth or Future. The restrictions on capture method, print treatment, scans and post-processing are central to eligibility, so refer to the organiser's downloadable 2027 rules rather than a promotional social media caption.

Who can enter, and how many pictures?

Adults may submit a coherent series of six to nine photographs. The separate Children & Youth category, for participants under 18, accepts five images and requires a responsible adult to comply with consent and entry rules. The call welcomes international photographers at different experience levels, and the available announcement describes entry as free. Check the official PDF for exact image dimensions, consent and metadata requirements before sending files.

Deadline and exhibition support

The published application deadline is 30 April 2027, with the exhibition planned for July 2027 on Samos. The selection includes 15 adult series and five youth series. The festival states it will pay for enlarged print production of selected digital scans; travel and accommodation are offered only to the artist behind the single most complete series, not to all selected artists. The organisation's official 2027 PDF is the final authority on timezone and any later changes.

Organiser and authenticity checks

The call is presented by Photonisos Arts & Culture, a cultural nonprofit associated with international arts events and photography on Samos. The organisation's official festival social accounts link to the English and Greek rulebooks and a dedicated submissions email. Independent European arts mobility publication On the Move also lists this same 2027 call. Use the original organiser links to avoid fee-collecting copies or misdescribed technical requirements.
