  • Sanford Underground Research Facility 2027 Artist Residency: $5,000 Stipend, Apply by 1 November

Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) in Lead, South Dakota is receiving applications for its 2027 Artist-in-Residence programme until 1 November 2026. It offers a rare setting for artists who use scientific research, technology and place-based investigations as material for new visual, moving-image or interdisciplinary work. SURF's updated 2027 announcement—not an older programme-year page—is the source for this year's deadline. What makes the residency distinctive? The programme takes place around a former deep gold mine that now supports experiments in physics, biology, geology and engineering. At 4,850 feet underground, the research environment offers unusual material for artists exploring scientific instruments, invisible phenomena, measurement, data, geology and human interactions with technology. The artist does not need to claim scientific credentials but should show how their practice can engage meaningfully with this environment. Support and activities in 2027 Four-week summer residency visit, followed by an autumn exhibition and guest lecture. US$5,000 artist stipend and up to a further US$5,000 in project support, as stated in the 2027 announcement. Travel, accommodation and related expenses are included under the programme arrangements. Access to scientists, the surface and underground research context, subject to safety protocols and site restrictions. Who can apply and what should be prepared? The organiser welcomes artists in all media, including visual artists, filmmakers, writers and musicians. The application asks for a strong professional exhibition or project record. Artists working with digital moving images, installation, data or research-based practices may find the programme particularly relevant, though their suitability depends on the proposal rather than medium alone. Letter of intent explaining the artistic concept, interest in SURF and proposed contribution. CV or résumé of up to two to five pages, following the portal's instructions. 15–20 examples of work completed in the previous five years, with identification details. Proposed materials budget if costs beyond the stipend are expected. Contact details for three professional references. Who organises the programme? SURF administers the programme in partnership with Black Hills State University. Its earlier artist participants include Rachel Berg (2026), Chris Combs (2025) and Marty Two Bulls (2024), demonstrating an established residency and exhibition record. Participants must follow research facility safety and access requirements. Apply through the official laboratory The official 2027 announcement provides the current award and deadline; use the programme page's own application portal to submit before 1 November 2026. Check the portal for time-zone and residency-access details. • Walk of Water 2026 «Out of Sight»: Free Global Photo Stories, $9,000 Awards

Free 2026 worldwide call closes on 30 November The sixth Walk of Water Photostory Contest is organised by Onewater with the involvement of UNESCO's World Water Assessment Programme and the UN Environment Programme. Its 2026 theme, Out of Sight, asks photographers worldwide to document how water intersects with health, ecosystems, sanitation and wellbeing—particularly the rarely seen work around wastewater. Entries are free and close on 30 November 2026 at 23:59 Central European Time. The initiative has a long-running public exhibition history, having presented previous water-related stories at UNESCO-linked events and venues in Europe and beyond. Five to ten photographs must form a documented story This is not a contest for a single spectacular landscape frame. Entrants provide five to ten original photographs, ideally at least ten megapixels in JPEG format, with an accompanying narrative of approximately 2,500–8,000 characters and captions explaining each frame. The published requirements recommend files of at least 3,872 pixels on the longer side and complete caption information. Potential projects might follow wastewater-testing laboratories, water-treatment workers, sanitation challenges, contaminated rivers, clean-water community programmes, coastal resilience, or the cultural and mental-health benefits of blue spaces. Consent and respect for any vulnerable subjects matter more than sensational imagery. Exactly how the US$9,000 prize pool is divided The competition's published total of US$9,000 is divided between a Global Wastewater Award pool of US$6,900 and a Youth Wastewater Award pool of US$2,100. The global category includes first US$3,000, second US$2,000, third US$1,000 and three US$300 merits. The youth prizes are US$900, US$750, US$250 and a US$200 merit award; candidates must be 25 or under on 1 December 2026. These awards are not US$9,000 for one winner. Winners are expected to be announced in January 2027, and selected stories may enter 2027 travelling exhibitions and publishing partnerships. Creative Commons licence is a significant long-term decision Although this opportunity is free to enter, its licensing requirement goes beyond giving the organiser narrow promotional permission. The published conditions use Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0), a licence under which third parties can reuse, adapt and redistribute submitted work with attribution and share-alike obligations. Photographers retain copyright, but they cannot assume the original images can later be made completely exclusive for a magazine or client. An author should read the full legal terms, obtain consent from any clearly recognisable people, and carefully evaluate whether a nonprofit, journalistic or client commission permits publication under CC BY-SA before agreeing. Organiser background, judging and participation safeguards Onewater works at the intersection of water science, environmental education and documentary storytelling and has staged recurring Walk of Water projects in partnership with the UNESCO World Water Assessment Programme. The 2026 announcement is also shared by Photoconsortium, an established European photographic heritage network. Entrants are expected to own all required image rights; artificially generated images and manipulations that change a documentary scene's substantive reality are not appropriate to the call. Use the organiser's current online portal and verify the photo licence, exact upload requirements and identity-data handling before submission; previous-year Walk of Water themes and prize amounts are not the current 2026 rules. • Tampere Film Festival 2027: €5,000 Short Film Grand Prix, International Entries Close 3 November

2027 International Competition closes on 3 November 2026 Tampere Film Festival in Finland invites animation, documentary, experimental and fiction short films from around the world for its 2027 International Competition. The deadline is 3 November 2026, and the 57th festival takes place 10–14 March 2027 in Tampere. A major distinction is that the International Competition, National Competition and Genre Competition have different entry rules: international filmmakers should use the 2027 International Competition submission form rather than assume that a Finnish-language competition automatically includes foreign projects. All qualifying films must have been completed on or after 1 January 2025. No premiere requirement, but films must be under 30 minutes The international strand accepts completed shorts running at most 30 minutes including credits, regardless of whether the work is fiction, non-fiction, animation or experimental cinema. A premiere is not required, so a film previously screened elsewhere may qualify; however a particular film can be submitted only once. English dialogue or English subtitles are required throughout the submitted preview. A work in progress is acceptable only if approved directly by the festival in advance, not automatically whenever the applicant indicates that post-production is nearly complete. The correct price now is €20, not the expired early-bird rate The organiser's official 2027 table lists an early-bird price of €16 through 1 September, a regular price of €18 through 1 October, and the final-stage submission fee of €20 through 3 November 2026. Earlier rates have expired as of 23 October. Fees are not refunded under any circumstances. Applications may be submitted through either FilmFreeway or Shortfilmdepot; a working preview link, film credits and a 300-dpi still image must accompany registration. Selection will be announced by the end of January 2027. Prizes and selection are distinct from screening honoraria The 2027 International Competition provides a Grand Prix of €5,000 and the festival's Kiss trophy. It also offers category prizes of €1,500 each for fiction, animation and documentary, plus special mentions, a nominated European Short Film Awards candidate and an audience award. These are competitive awards, not payments to everyone whose film is accepted. Some winning categories can create eligibility for Academy Awards consideration under that organisation's rules, but a competition win is not an automatic Oscars nomination or award. Film rights, online circulation and producer protection Tampere has operated since 1969 and is one of northern Europe's important established short-film festivals, offering screenings, filmmaker conversations and industry events. The festival supplies one representative of a selected film with three hotel nights, but it does not pay screening fees, and travel from another country is not necessarily covered. The rules allow use of a promotional excerpt of up to 10% or three minutes, whichever is shorter. Separately, films may enter its Finland-geoblocked online screenings or industry library with the filmmaker's agreement. Rights holders should check exclusivity clauses, territories and festival availability before accepting. The official contact is films@tff.fi. • Applied Arts Photography & Motion Awards 2027: International Call Opens 23 November 2026

Announced, but the 2027 submissions do not open until November 23 Canadian visual-communications publication Applied Arts has confirmed its 2027 Photography Awards schedule. The call for entries opens on 23 November 2026, while the submission deadline is 29 January 2027 and results notification is planned for 3 March 2027. As of 23 October 2026, this is an upcoming application, not an already-open form for the 2027 season. Photographers, cinematographers and agencies can prepare portfolios, rights permissions and English-language supporting descriptions in advance, then confirm the live 2027 category list when entry begins. World-wide professional and amateur eligibility, with exceptions The core competition accepts photographers and cinematographers internationally, including work commissioned for commercial purposes, editorial publication, art projects and independent creative exploration. Existing categories range from fashion, advertising, architecture, food, travel, environmental photography and photojournalism to conceptual imagery and motion work for film, television, websites and social channels. The Small Community programme has a Canada-only restriction; it cannot be treated as a global category. A Young Blood track recognises professionals with three or fewer years of experience. Current students must use the separately organised Applied Arts Student Awards rather than submit to the main professional Photography Awards. Entry fees are charged; the current website still shows the previous kit Applied Arts sells entries by category and submission type, and the organisers do not offer a universally free photo submission. The photography page currently displays fees of approximately US$40 for a single image and US$65 for a series, motion-image fees around US$100 per single and US$150 per series, and discounted Young Blood rates of US$30 and US$55. However, those figures are displayed alongside a 2026 entry-kit download, so they must be treated as prior published guidance rather than guaranteed 2027 prices. The final fees will be those in the 2027 categories kit and live checkout after November 23; entries generally are not refundable once paid. Digital still and video formats, plus a dating discrepancy The currently published technical guide accepts RGB still images in PDF, JPG, PNG or GIF and motion work supplied as MP4 or via a video platform link. It gives 2,400 pixels along the long side at 300 dpi with a 5 MB limit for stills, and 80 MB as an example of the motion MP4 limit. Series typically permit up to five related main files, with supplementary contextual materials. English translations are required for key texts. One paragraph of the Photography Awards page still refers to a 2025–January 2026 eligibility interval, while the 2027 header specifies January 2026–January 2027. Applicants should rely on the new 2027 kit once released and seek written clarification before paying for potentially out-of-period work. About Applied Arts and what winners receive Applied Arts is an established Canadian trade magazine and creative awards organiser that has documented work in advertising, design, illustration, photography and related fields since 1992. Its awards are evaluated by working art directors, creative directors and other industry professionals, who assess originality, craft and effective visual communication. Winning photographs may appear in the Applied Arts Photography, Illustration & Design Awards Annual, in the online Winners Gallery and awards archive, with a certificate and promotional badge. Those are publication and professional-recognition benefits, not a promised cash prize or guaranteed new commission. Use the organiser's 2027 application page from the official Applied Arts website rather than reusing a 2026 payment link. Original Applied Arts 2027 announcements Official 2027 Photography Awards announcement and category overview Official 2027 Awards calendar including submissions opening date Information reviewed 23 October 2026. Submissions open only on 23 November. Fees and eligibility examples copied from last year's page must be reverified against the 2027 entry kit when the new portal opens.

  • Wide Open Experimental Film Festival 2027: Oklahoma City Screens Global Films Under 25 Minutes

An international film festival for moving-image experimentation The Wide Open Experimental Film Festival (WOEFF) at Oklahoma City University is accepting films for its Spring 2027 in-person programme in Oklahoma City. It invites artists worldwide to submit formally adventurous moving-image work, from diary film, poetic montage and abstract animation to structural cinema, artist documentaries and unconventional digital experimentation. The organiser says the festival is open to diverse artistic approaches and does not impose a requirement that the film be a world or US premiere. Important fee and submission calendar The published regular entry deadline is 31 October 2026, with a US$6 entry fee. A late submission remains available until 30 November 2026 at a higher US$25 fee. The organisers accept applications only through FilmFreeway, reached via their own official site; the checkout page should be checked for any local tax or platform differences. The in-person festival is currently announced for Spring 2027, but its official call does not state fixed screening days. Do not mistake the website's archived 23–26 April 2026 programme for the 2027 dates. Under 25 minutes; any production year or premiere history Because of venue and programming restrictions, the 2027 call accepts films under 25 minutes in length. The organisers explicitly say there are no restrictions on completion date or premiere status. This means an older self-produced work, or a film previously screened elsewhere, may still be considered. Screenings are planned in digital formats, with the possibility of discussing 8mm, 16mm or 35mm works separately if the filmmakers can explain their required apparatus and handling. Films should be prepared for an English-speaking and reading audience, including English subtitles where appropriate. University backing and no travel or screening honorarium WOEFF is organised by the Film Department at Oklahoma City University, whose festival site provides extensive archives of earlier programmes, interviews, discussions and featured works from recent editions. The 2027 event is advertised as free for audience members to attend, but that does not make film submissions free. The organiser states it is unable to pay exhibition/screening fees or travel costs to invited filmmakers. Producers should confirm copyright and licensing for music, third-party footage and any archival imagery, and budget any travel separately. For unusual presentation requirements, contact the festival staff at wideopeneff@gmail.com before paying. Official application and source Main official event and current application Submission platform or official categories / full rules Checked against the organisers' official information on 23 October 2026. Please verify live deadlines, fees, copyright, eligibility and technical delivery before entering.

  • European Commission Shifting Shores Residency 2027: €15,000 Total, Apply by 24 October

Urgent 24 October cutoff: a six-month European art-and-policy research residency The European Commission's Directorate-General for Research and Innovation, supported by the Joint Research Centre's EU Policy Lab, is recruiting an artist for Shifting Shores: life, identity and adaptation where land meets sea. The closing date is Saturday 24 October 2026 at 23:59 Brussels time, extremely near for applicants reading in Asia or the Americas. Send one combined PDF to JRC-EU-POLICY-LAB@ec.europa.eu with the subject RTD Residency. The successful residency starts in January or February 2027 and runs for six months. Applicants of any nationality, but EU work permission is essential The official call welcomes researchers and artists working in any medium who have at least two years of serious research-based artistic experience relevant to environmental and climate impacts in coastal places. Applicants may be of any nationality, but must be legally able to work in the European Union. Place-based, social, ecological, embodied, participatory, documentary, speculative and interdisciplinary approaches are particularly relevant. This is not a no-portfolio student contest or an open-ended commission for any artwork on any topic. The €15,000 budget is NOT a cash prize on top of travel The six-month total contract budget is €15,000, and the Commission clearly states that it includes the artist's professional fee, allowance, accommodation and travel. It must not be added to a separate accommodation subsidy or reported as a €15,000 prize paid without duties. The artist is expected to be on site in Brussels for up to 20 nonconsecutive days and otherwise can work from their own location. The residency is not six continuous months living at the Commission's expense in Brussels. Participants should understand tax, invoicing, travel planning, right-to-work and insurance implications before applying. Coastal adaptation, public policy and local experiences Shifting Shores is focused on changing relationships among coastlines, nature and communities affected by erosion, biodiversity loss, pollution, water scarcity and climate adaptation. The selected artist will work with research and policy specialists on how lived memories, livelihoods, emotional attachment to places and environmental evidence intersect. The process includes conversations with teams working on nature-based solutions, oceans and waters, and an informal closing reflection or creative presentation. A future commissioned finished artwork is not automatically guaranteed. One PDF, specific written statement and concrete selection stages Applicants should combine into one PDF a statement of around 500 words, no longer than one page, describing the proposed line of inquiry, artistic interests and approach to engagement with Commission teams; a curated portfolio of relevant previous projects and a website link when available; and a CV. The working language is English, with French useful but not compulsory. Shortlisted applicants are scheduled for online interviews 11–13 November, with selection around mid-November and contracting in December. The artist begins in January or February 2027. If the deadline is missed, the Commission says late entries cannot be considered. Institutional record and application safety The primary announcement is issued by the European Commission's Knowledge4Policy platform, part of the European Commission Joint Research Centre's science-for-policy service. The EU Policy Lab develops creative methods for research and policymaking, while DG RTD covers research and innovation programmes. The official announcement contains the complete opportunity, organisational details, downloadable call document and email submission address. There is no third-party intermediary or 'guaranteed selection' payment. Work authorization must be verified rather than assumed from a nationality-neutral description. Original European Commission call and application European Commission Knowledge4Policy: Shifting Shores official call European Commission Joint Research Centre: open arts and science calls Information verified 23 October 2026. The official time limit is 24 October at 23:59 Brussels local time, and the total budget includes fees and expenses; consult the current original notice before submitting.

  • Ten Moir Gallery Black & White 2026: Worldwide Art Challenge, $18 Current Entry From October

Ten Moir Gallery has opened its international Black & White Online Art Challenge to original work that uses monochrome as an artistic choice rather than simply removing colour from a picture. The deadline is 30 November 2026, with results expected on 18 December. Photographers, digital artists, painters, sculptors and mixed-media practitioners aged 18 or over from any country may enter, provided that they own the rights to their submitted works. The organiser's site contains conflicting promotional copy about a free entry, so its current checkout price is a particularly important eligibility and budget consideration. The brief: visual storytelling without colour The theme covers dramatic portraits, street photography, abstract compositions, architecture, quiet domestic scenes and other work where contrast, tone, texture and emotional weight take priority over colour. The online contest welcomes both new artists and experienced practitioners and can accept two-dimensional and three-dimensional media, represented by clear photographic documentation. Entries are assessed for craftsmanship, composition, interpretation of the theme, creativity, presentation and technical command. A carefully edited monochrome photograph may fit the brief, but paintings, drawings and digital compositions may also qualify under the organiser's listed media. An entrant should focus on the quality of the piece rather than assume photography is the only accepted discipline. Why the free-entry headline requires caution The official Black & White page advertises a first-image-free offer, but its dated 'First Entry Free Until' information specifies 5 September 2026. That early-bird date has already passed. A separate current pricing FAQ explicitly says the minimum charge is US$18 for one or two artworks; three works cost US$25, four cost US$36, five cost US$45, and six to ten cost US$55 according to the example package table. Other promotional text on the same page still refers to a 'free first entry until deadline', conflicting with its dated early-bird cutoff and broader fee FAQ. Because of this inconsistency, participants should not assume their October or November entry is free. Check the actual live submission form and request written confirmation if the fee differs before submitting payment; do not infer that a higher-priced package increases jury scores. Recognition, result date and cash award The published Best in Show prize is US$150 cash, accompanied by an artist interview, mini-magazine spotlight, a homepage feature and a free entry to a separate Blue Sky Artist Award. Other selected artists may be listed with credited names, artwork titles and portfolio links in a curated collection. The gallery describes runner-up features in its traditional-art and photography tracks, certificates and digital promotional material for some finalists. Not every participant receives a cash prize, professional gallery representation or a physical exhibition. Ten Moir says its online collections and publicity help artists develop a digital portfolio, but actual collector interest and sales are not guaranteed. The planned announcement is 18 December 2026, subject to changes on the official website. Original files, licensing and the organiser Applicants upload JPG or PNG images with at least 2,000 pixels along their longest side and a recommended size under 3 MB, with artist name, work titles, medium and portfolio link. The gallery says artists retain copyright and grant a nonexclusive right to display and promote the images with attribution for the challenge; selling or sublicensing artwork to another party requires separate permission. Ten Moir operates an online art-promotions platform with an archive of thematic challenges and previous exhibitions. The application terms apply even to people based outside the United States; creators should verify any applicable local laws, photography permissions and the possibility of receiving international prize payments. A contest entry is a discretionary selection process, not an artist employment contract. Official contest and entry terms Original organizer call and rules Organiser's currently published pricing and copyright FAQ Checked 23 October 2026. Note a contradiction between the early-bird free-entry cutoff and promotional free-entry language. The organizer's live checkout and current fee FAQ take precedence.

  • Aperio Gallery Body & Beyond 2026: Free Global Art Call, €15 Fee Only If Selected

Aperio Gallery is accepting worldwide applications for its curated online exhibition 'Body & Beyond', an invitation to think about the physical and psychological boundaries of the human body. Submission is free for artists aged 18 and over, and the application deadline is 15 November 2026. This is a digital gallery exhibition and potential sales opportunity rather than a funded artist residency, guaranteed commission or cash-prize competition. Concept, media and applicants The programme invites interpretations of how the body is experienced from within and represented from outside: personal identity, anatomy, movement, perception, vulnerability and relations with the surrounding world all fit the brief. Aperio explicitly accepts painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, sculpture, textile art and mixed media. Moving-image applicants are told to provide a work link, but should confirm whether a video work can be displayed and sold in the same way as other media. Artists from any country may submit up to three original pieces. All submissions must be available for sale, which distinguishes this from a nonprofit research residency or an exhibition of work that is legally unavailable for purchase. Each entry should contain a good-quality image, title, medium, dimensions, year and asking price, along with a brief artist biography and a short artist statement. Free application; €15 if selected; 20% commission on actual sales There is no charge at the application stage, and unsuccessful candidates do not owe the gallery a fee. Selected artists are asked to pay a €15 exhibition participation fee. This is a condition of taking up the exhibition offer, not money paid to the artist and not a jury application fee. Creators should read the withdrawal and refund policy before accepting an invitation. Works included in the gallery are also presented for purchase. Aperio takes a 20% commission on the sale price if an artwork sells; the artist receives the remaining amount before their own applicable taxes, packing or transport costs. Selected artists are responsible for packing and shipping sold works. Inclusion therefore offers visibility and a retail possibility, not guaranteed income. Dates and a small discrepancy on the gallery page The official dates section lists 15 November 2026 for applications, 20 November for selected-artist notification and an online exhibition from 30 November 2026 through 10 January 2027. Elsewhere in the introduction a different November start date appears, apparently carried over from an earlier layout. Applicants who need an exact opening date for promotion should confirm it with Aperio rather than relying on the inconsistent banner wording. Selected artworks will be included in the digital exhibition catalogue and advertised on the gallery's channels. The organisers may consider a particularly strong artist for a future solo online exhibition, but this possibility is discretionary. Artists who are not chosen may not receive an individual rejection notification. Organiser background, rights and participant precautions Aperio Gallery runs thematic online curated art exhibitions and an art sales platform featuring participating artists. The gallery's current site contains its own public open-call terms and information on exhibition sales. Its Body & Beyond notice provides a primary source for the €15 selection fee, the commission rate and required images. Artists retain copyright and ownership of the works until sold, subject to permissions needed to display and publicise the exhibitions. Before applying, check that galleries, clients, coauthors and photographic subjects have not restricted publication or sale. No artist should transfer an artwork or pay an invoice to a private account not independently linked from the gallery's own official communication. Official gallery open call and terms Official current eligibility, entry, submission and rights Aperio Gallery terms, image rights, withdrawal and selling conditions Information checked 23 October 2026. The detailed official dates indicate an exhibition start on 30 November, while another banner gives a conflicting date; confirm any exact opening date with the gallery.

  • Fest Anča 2027: Free Animation and Music Video Submissions Open 31 October

Early-bird entry is free but has not started as of 23 October Fest Anča International Animation Festival will run its twentieth edition in Žilina, Slovakia, from 29 June to 4 July 2027. It welcomes animation from international film artists, student filmmakers, animation directors and creators of animated music videos. The festival's FilmFreeway registration period opens on 31 October 2026, meaning that on 23 October it is announced but not yet open for the coming edition. It closes on 31 January 2027. The fee has three phases: entries uploaded from 31 October to 30 November 2026 are free; those registered from 1 through 31 December cost €5 each; entries uploaded from 1 through 31 January 2027 cost €10 each. FilmFreeway Gold offers a discounted rate for the later phases. Filmmakers should not pay an intermediary advertising a fee during the free early-bird window. Which animations and music videos qualify? For the international competitive programme, animated films must run under 30 minutes and must have been completed after 1 January 2025. Categories include International Short Animated Film, Student Animated Film, Animated Short for Children and Animated Music Video. A separate Slovak animated-film category is limited to work with majority involvement of Slovak producers or filmmakers; foreign filmmakers should enter the international category fitting their project. Submission requires the complete film, clear production credits and rights to the imagery, music, performances, character design and any stock elements. Works containing dialogue in languages other than English normally require English subtitles. Short videos made for musicians and new media artists can qualify when animation, rather than only edited live-action footage, is integral to the work. Human artistic input, AI assistance and intellectual-property rules The festival explicitly allows consideration of AI-assisted art only when clear creative input from human artists is evident. It does not impose a universal ban on AI tools, but a fully automatic output without meaningful human authorship may be ineligible. This makes it important to explain the artistic direction, animation process and actual use of generative tools truthfully. Filmmakers retain their underlying rights and grant screening and limited promotional permissions according to the rules. The organiser may use excerpts and still images to publicise the edition and selected titles. Authors must read the full licensing terms and make sure every collaborator and music copyright holder has approved festival presentation. Festival track record and submission procedure Fest Anča is a dedicated international animation festival whose screenings, retrospectives, workshops and artist talks form a meeting point for independent animators in Slovakia and nearby Central European countries. The festival's established competition programmes recognise professional, student, children's and music-video animations separately. Submit through the festival's 2027 FilmFreeway page, linked from the official website and the Animation Festival Network calendar. The entry window starts 31 October, the final 31 January 2027 deadline is followed by planned notification in March. • Farouk Hosny Photography Award 2027: Egyptian Citizens Aged 18–40 Apply by 1 November

Applications are restricted to Egyptian nationals, not all photographers The eighth Farouk Hosny Foundation Art Awards edition invites applications for its Photography Award 2027 between 1 September and 1 November 2026, closing at midnight Egypt time (GMT+2). It is strictly limited to Egyptian citizens aged between 18 and 40 as at 31 December 2026, whether professional or amateur photographers. Applicants who simply live abroad or wish to visit Egypt are not eligible unless they also meet the nationality requirement. The foundation's form requires a national ID, birthdate, name, education, contact details and an artistic biography no longer than 300 words. The photographs must be taken by the applicant, not artificially generated, and have been produced in 2025 or later. Artistic documentary or experimental photography is welcome, but the author must hold the necessary creative and intellectual-property rights. Applicants can enter up to three photographs. A finalist may have only one work selected for display. Files, RAW evidence, and the physical exhibition The official eligibility page requires clear high-quality JPG submissions and a link to the original RAW image files in Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox or another suitable accessible service. Applicants must check the actual pixel dimensions and allowed file sizes in the complete 2027 regulations. Photos with a visible name, watermark, identifying sign or a prohibited prior exhibition or award may be disqualified. Final-stage participants can be required to print, frame and deliver selected photographs for the foundation's group exhibition. If attending in person, photographers should confirm print size, framing, transportation, security and insurance. The foundation expressly excludes its responsibility for transportation and insurance costs and can withhold a cash award if a winner does not attend its in-person presentation. Prizes and unusually broad publication rights The foundation's 2027 Photography Award prizes total EGP 150,000: first EGP 75,000 plus trophy, second EGP 50,000, and third EGP 25,000. Tax obligations are the winner's responsibility. These figures are Egyptian pounds rather than US dollars and apply to three separate awards, not every accepted entrant. Artists retain underlying ownership, but finalists grant the foundation a perpetual worldwide nonexclusive royalty-free licence covering reproduction, distribution, adaptation and promotional use of their work and related photographs. This licence deserves careful review, especially for work already subject to publication or client agreements. • Onion City Experimental Film Festival 2027: Late Entries Open Until 19 November

A historic Chicago experimental cinema festival Chicago Filmmakers is accepting submissions for the 37th Onion City Experimental Film Festival taking place 8–11 April 2027 in Chicago. The regular deadline of 22 October 2026 has already passed. As of 23 October, entries are still accepted during the late application period through 19 November 2026. Experimental documentary, fiction, non-narrative, film-based and digital moving-image projects are all plausible candidates. Onion City began with Chicago's Experimental Film Coalition in the 1980s. Chicago Filmmakers took over organising the festival in 2001, broadening its programming from celluloid to video, while continuing to show adventurous work by filmmakers from different countries. Current fee: do not use the expired regular-rate price The FilmFreeway listing states a late/extended deadline fee of US$35 for the first entry, or US$30 for eligible students; each additional entry by the same filmmaker costs US$15. The previously advertised US$30 regular fee and US$25 early-bird fee refer to earlier periods, not the current late submission window. FilmFreeway Gold pricing, if relevant, is separately shown at checkout. One part of the provider's metadata still uses the label 'Onion City 2026' although the festival's official site explicitly invites films for its 37th 2027 edition. Confirm that the online category and final fee refer to the intended 2027 presentation before paying. No submission or selection guarantees a cash prize or a travel budget. Eligible projects and screening deliverables The current platform rules accept experimental work completed between 2023 and 2027. There is no universal maximum length, though film categories separate short works under 50 minutes from feature-length works of 50 minutes or more. A Chicago premiere is preferred, but is not always required. Applicants supply an online preview screener through FilmFreeway or a password-protected Vimeo-type streaming link. If accepted, films may need an exhibition DCP, MP4/MOV file or 16mm film copy. Films without English dialogue need appropriate English subtitles, and any separate caption files must meet the specified formats. Before entering, obtain rights for archival footage, performers, music, voices, trademarks and software assets in the submitted work. Festival relevance and application checklist The organiser presents a curated programme of international contemporary experimental works, usually including short programmes, guest screenings and discussions in Chicago venues. A filmmaker should not confuse submission to Onion City with Chicago Filmmakers' unrelated production-assistant job training, film-making courses, or the Reeling festival. Apply through the festival's original website link to FilmFreeway, save receipts and check its provisions on promotional clips, potential withdrawals and video availability. The local time zone should be confirmed from the submission platform instead of assuming the cutoff is midnight in the applicant's country. • m:brane 2027 Malmö Opens International XR and Animation Project Pitches Until 26 November

m:brane has opened its first call for the 2027 edition of the international Malmö forum focused on screen stories for children and young audiences. It helps film and audiovisual producers meet financiers and co-production partners rather than acting as an ordinary festival for finished films. Narrative animation, interactive work and immersive screen storytelling can be suitable when the proposed project fits the organiser's pitching categories and development requirements. Eligibility and project readiness The opportunity is designed for screen-content projects in development or work in progress, created for young audiences and normally brought by teams with a producer attached. Before submitting, check which of the organisers' pitching formats matches your work. A finished standalone video installation or an individual artist with only a first concept should not assume an automatic fit. Specific producer, rights, language and youth-audience criteria in the entry rules take precedence. Deadline and Malmö meeting According to the organiser, the initial project call closes on 26 November 2026 at 23:59 Central European Time. The 2027 forum takes place in Malmö, Sweden, on 10–11 March 2027. The first announcement refers to selecting a limited programme of approximately 26 projects. A successful initial application is not a promise of direct funding, travel assistance or a distribution agreement. Pitching and potential support The forum is designed to bring participants into conversation with commissioning, funding and production partners. That can be valuable for animation, immersive narratives and XR-style projects looking for collaborators. Professional training and development activities form part of the broader m:brane programme. The event also advertises a competitive EUR 2,500 Best Pitch award; this is a distinction for a selected winner, not a per-applicant grant. Organiser background m:brane is an established international forum centred on stories for children and young audiences, based in Malmö. The organisation's own website provides an archive and details of the current submission programme. Its focus on audiovisual co-production helps explain why the entry process differs from an ordinary digital art open call and why producer-readiness is important. Official announcement Original organiser call: https://mbrane.se/latest-news/first-call-for-the-forum-2027/ . The latest forum rules and application system linked from this page should be used for official category eligibility, project materials, travel conditions and fee information.
